Until W10 includes Windows Media Centre my HTPC will not be upgrading. No amount of nagging will change that
As for the "windows tip" to switch to edge on my laptop my first response is NO, my second response is why would I switch to a browser with fewer features than the one I use (Vivaldi is maturing nicely) and my third response is how do I switch off this "helpful" feature that is acting more like one of those dodgy toolbar downloads
If you upgrade you keep windows media centre...if you download a hack
I'd be inclined to look elsewhere anyway many better alternatives out there
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
I don't get why people use Media Centre and things - I get just as organised a system simply using File Manager...
In fact, based on my limited experience of media organisers, I tend to find doing it myself puts things exactly where *I* want them instead of arranging everything how the program thinks they should be...
Very annoying when my Gary Numan albums are not organised by release date!!
Assuming older OSes are no longer supported and thus increasingly more vulnerable - I'd have thought that'd be the big headline on all these notifications to convince people to upgrade?
Ooh, didn't know about that - Is this free?
As in completely free, including whatever television service thingies it connects to?
There's a big monitor-like frame with moving pictures downstairs that the Mrs watches and she has something called a "Sky Box", with which she observes all manner of stories about four weddings and Coming Dining with America's Next Top Model... but beyond that, television has been a mystery to me ever since they stopped showing Knight Rider and Airwolf via the aerial atop the house!!
I haven't ventured beyond receiving 'free' DVB-T(2), i.e. Freeview and Freeview HD television, which I know WMC does very well.
I believe WMC is capable of decoding DVB-C and DVB-S, but again, I haven't looked in to it - as I'm not interested in watching self-entitled people yelling at each other.
That said, I don't think it's worth looking in to WMC because it's pretty much dead. I'd be looking for a replacement if I wanted to watch people being exploited for making a fool of themselves, though from the little I've gathered; Kodi and its various add-ons is the way to go.
I was just thinking for watching stuff like Game O' Thrones and Vikings...
Honestly, I'm almost completely out of touch with media, I don't even know where to catch GoT or Vikings.
GoT is on regular TV... or the Sky Box thing SWMBO has.
Vikings starts on Amazon Prime, but later shows on The History Channel, I think.
I never really liked much WMC, but there are just so many alternatives like Plex, Kodi, MediaPortal, Moovida, that I can hardly feel WMC being the reason to hold back an upgrade from a previous version.
I've upgraded for free already. To Ubuntu MATE. Thanks MS but keep your faeces to yourself.
