I agree the XZ looks pretty good, the compact however seems to be a bigger drop than usual with Sony phones.

I think I will keep my Z3C for a while longer.

And finally they removed that glass in the back, I never liked that concept in any phones till now, I like my phones with a back I don't need to worry about coated with fingerprints or shatter to pieces.

Re: Sony launches the Xperia XZ, and Xperia X Compact, flagships

I have the Xperia Z5 Premium on contract over a year now. Always liked the styling, but this new model now looks like any other placticy mobile.

The 4K screen on the premium was overkill, 2K would have been better, but still has one of the best images I've seen on a mobile and the built in camera and 4K recording is exceptional, tested a few high end phones and non beat it in those fields.

This "flagship" goes back to FHD, which I understand, better for performance and battery life, but only a 5.2" screen size. Shame

If it was at least a 5.7" to 6" screen and 2K to keep that amazing sharp image without hitting on performance too much, I'd definitely be interested in upgrading.

Hopefully there will be a premium or Ultra version with a bigger screen, if not, I'll stick with the Premium another year until the contract ends, and see what's new then..

They're still missing a trick. The compact is too low res/specification, while the 5" phones are too bulky for some - there's a whole slew of 5" chinese phones around 140mm in length that are growing in popularity.

Considering what you're getting I wouldn't in any way label the Xperia X Compact a flagship phone. Actually, shame on you, Sony!

Personally I think 720p is perfectly fine for a 4.6" phone and the CPU is still damn potent.

Perhaps part of the reason for the slower CPU is a lack of space for the additional cooling of the SD820, assuming Sony are still using the heatpipes and whatnot that the Z5 series had.

Re: Sony launches the Xperia XZ, and Xperia X Compact, flagships

It's a shame that the compact has gone the way of other manufacturers, lesser product. I've got a Z3 Compact and it's fantastic, same spec as the Z3 just a smaller and lower res screen. Still water proof, still full power.
