One poll sponsored by a company with a vested interest in the answer reached rings some "Bad PR" bells..... But.... I actually find that number reasonable! I'm certainly only paying for the line for the sake of fibre.
Nevermind knowing ny number, I don't have a landline phone!
I've got BT BB and phone. The phone has only ever been used to test the line, I've got a basic corded phone stashed away to use in case of emergency.
However I still give out this number (which I only know due to storing it in my phone) to companies who insist on having a phone number

What on earth is that wrapped around the telephone line in the bottom picture.
Looks like a snake.
Edit: Yep it is.

Thank goodness that's all it is, i thought it was something less savory.

I only have one for broadband and emergency services (with young children it apparently recommended as they can determine your location quicker). Otherwise landlines are pretty dead if you ask me...
It's notable that in many developing countries, mobiles exceed landlines by many orders of magnitude. Even getting one installed at all tends to be an expensive, bureaucratic faff I imagine. But then again, their broadband is probably mostly wireless too.
Generalizing like crazy there LOL

It was 15 euro cheaper for me per month at the time (On Irish Virgin Media) to get broadband with a landline bundle than without. Don't know my number, don't actually have a phone connected to it.
Shame on you Hexus for peddling that sort of nonsense. It's probably safe to say that a large group of people resent paying line rental charges for a telephone line purely for the sake of gaining broadband services.
Line rental goes to pay for the line, the one you use for broadband. Providing a basic phone service with no calls included is a cost so minimal it makes up £1 a month at most, and given that most ISPs load up 'line rental' cost to make their broadband cheaper it would simply be lost in the background.
Anyone who's spent even half an hour looking into that situation will have discovered those complaints are 'it stands to reason' rather then based on any actual reality and should be discouraging that erroneous perception, not encouraging it.
I've been away from the UK for about 3 years but the same applies to me here in France, I didn't even want the land line but you don't get a choice with Orange. BTW I'd rather take the landline than have GCHQ tracking me on a mobile... gave the old mobile up about 5 years ago and never looked back (time between mobile and landline was bliss).
I never had a landline in my 5 years in Japan, and fortunately, that had never been an issue (no one has ever insisted that I provide a landline). It wasn't necessary for my 100/100 fibre. I do miss that.
