While it might be a money maker for them . I'd never buy a laptop for myself for home use.
I may be behind the times but I still see the descriptor of 'gaming laptop' as a contradiction in terms.

No your absolutely right, these arent laptops they are old school desktops (pre-tower pc era) just with a display glued onto them.
They are also horrible designs but for some reason they appeal to certain markets, certainly they have no use in whats driving pc gaming's current popularity which are moba's and online only games, the western games market is not the engine room of pc gaming.
If I were to have a gaming laptop, I want performance in a functional case. Not this flashy carved edges with sharp lines and things that can catch.
ROG, MSI Gaming and Alienware laptops all look ugly to me and I would not want to own one. Razer's gaming laptops are the only ones that come close to performance in a non-stupid case.
Edit: If I had the excessive spare finance, I would probably go for a Razer Blade Pro without a second thought
I agree completely, laptops are made for portability. If specs are important to you for say gaming, then a desktop cannot be beat.
