That's a competitive price for what it is. Does it work with a ceiling mounting kit? I'd be tempted to ceiling mount a projector, even if it means having a couple of floor boards up in the room above. Out of the way of small children, pets etc.
£850 is basically 15 trips to the cinema + babysitter costs for the wife and me (ignoring the cost of renting/buying the movie to watch at home of course, and a tin of projector paint), so it's not out of the question...
As one of the lucky forum members who received one of these to do a user review, I can confirm that it does support ceiling mount - in fact when you turn it on the first thing you have to do is select your projection mode from 4 options; "floor" v ceiling and back v front projection.
My experience of it - particular in terms of the image size - is that ceiling mount would definitely be the way to go. If you swing over to the reader reviews section you'll get a range of user opinions on it as the forum competition winners start getting their reviews online
I've owned two Optoma projectors (HD70 etc) as well as buying one for work. Never again. You have to keep these suckers cool.
A replacement lamp costs around £250. - You must be joking!?
Sticking with a tv.
I ordered a new Optoma Projector for the office a few years ago - hot and loud were my lasting impressions, and it was barely an improvement over the old clunker it replaced. Admittedly, it only cost about half the price of the W1210ST, but it wasn't a full HD capable model.
That's the problem here - the W1210ST is much quieter than any projector I have used at work, and there nave been several over the years - You can barely hear it. As most peoples' exposure to projectors is limited to old/hot/noisy units, their minds are already made up.
I was exactly the same - no way would I have seriously considered a projector for home use, until I received the BenQ. Things have moved on a fair bit in just the last two or three years.
Never been keen on ultra short throw, leave them for schools and offices as you just cant get good sharp corners and even brightness.
Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack
off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse.
As far as I know BenQ has good products.
One of the problem with the projectors are the highly money value of components.
Would be interested to know how this compares to the BenQ W2000 in respect to black levels and movie performance. Clearly the W1210ST has the edge in gaming with its low input lag, but gaming is of secondary concern to me. I will use it a bit for that, but mostly for movie viewing.
The W2000 is older and slightly cheaper... other than that the specs seem VERY similar.
