If anyone's interested they also published a layman's breakdown of what's collected on basic and full.

    "there isn't a 'none' option."

^ and this is why I have trust issues... And they still haven't fixed the forced auto-update nonsense.

This is the future. Google started it, then Apple, now MS. Anyway if you didn't think that MS collected information before then you're being a bit silly.

P.s. There's always your router's firewall, that can be used to block these things or your hosts file. Use them. There are options.

You can block updates fully on Windows 10 Pro. I do this myself (Defer Upgrades) and use the Windows Update MiniTool. Works perfectly.

I must have a different understanding of what defer means.

You can block updates on any version of Windows simply by disabling the Windows update service, however I'm not sure why you'd want to do that as you'd be leaving the system vulnerable to publicly know exploits.

I just used gpedit to set it to notify me but not download updates... the only downside is the annoying pop up that takes focus from even full screen games at the most annoying time...

So managing the updates how I want is almost like how I had windows 7, I want to see if the update screws something up before I put it on my 'work computer'.

I do wish MS would just do what everyone is asking and stick a big simple NO I do not want to share my data with you button somewhere but that just isn't going to happen because 'personal data' is the new money maker thanks to everyone accepting google doing it etc without realising just how much companies now know about us.

I don't think anyone minds sending 'bug reports' when things fail but it's the type of data that is sent is the problem for a lot of us, I do suspect people would object more if they actually knew, forum users like us are a small minority of users, how much other 'personal' data is being sent
