Neither - higher colour accuracy and a wider dynamic range.

Re: QOTW: PC monitors - high resolution or high refresh?

Its always going to be refresh over res for experienced fast paced online gamers. 144hz 4k will do if the likes of the ROG Swift PG27UQ has low input lag. I believe most of the 240hz monitors currently released have high input lag thus won't be used competitively

Nothing better the 1440p 165hz IPS with G-sync

I would take higher refresh over more resolution any time, especially if paired with variable refresh technology.

Re: QOTW: PC monitors - high resolution or high refresh?

    I have a 27" 144hz (1440p) monitor and a 34" Ultrawide 1440p 60hz monitor. Both IPS.

I've been using the Ultrawide a lot more.. Better colour accuracy, sharper image and I don't miss my 144hz monitor for gaming. Would take better colour accuracy and res over hz any day of the week..

Re: QOTW: PC monitors - high resolution or high refresh?

As a gamer, I prefer map-based strategy games, and I find resolution definitely takes priority over refresh rate. As a developer, there's no contest - working with an IDE is fantastic on a 3440x1440 screen.

144Hz 1440p, currently the best of both worlds!

Re: QOTW: PC monitors - high resolution or high refresh?

    I have the Asus PG348Q 100Hz 3440 x 1440 G-Sync.
    The wife has the Asus PG279Q 165Hz 2560 x 1440 G-Sync.

To me 1440p is preferable but not so bothered about high refresh rates as I use G-Sync, to me a smooth picture is the most important thing.

Eizo CX 271... and I wouldn't change. Maybe for Eizo CX 271 with G-Sync :-)

    I've got a X32A, high-res and 100hz refresh IPS - a great compromise imo.

Re: QOTW: PC monitors - high resolution or high refresh?

it is a hard choice, but i already chosen, -> 4k 40" philips monitor.
The pixel ratio to screen seems to be ideal to work with no scaling. but i ould not go further in the pixel screen ratio. for 28" i would go QHD not UHD. for 22" i would go FHD and then probably would go into refreash rates.
From given Iiyamas i would take neither.

Re: QOTW: PC monitors - high resolution or high refresh?

Variable refresh makes the refresh rate less important. I don't think my monitor hits 144Hz that often.

With 1440p instead of 4K, I guess I am all about compromise

Re: QOTW: PC monitors - high resolution or high refresh?

The time has come to FINALLY eliminate all compromises.

ASUS is releasing 4K 144Hz HDR Quantum Dot G-Sync and also coming is a free sync version end of this year starting a new era where 4K is hold to a new standard.

This will be the beginning of the end of the 60Hz era when manufacturers endlessly milked the old LCD tech to oblivion to make money of their old factory's.

This will also speed up the transition to the first OLED monitors around 2019/2020 as soon as their short comings are sorted out.

Thank god for this, i have been waiting years for this to happen. Holy f**k what a relief that the monitor market finally is evolving.

Re: QOTW: PC monitors - high resolution or high refresh?

4K is stunning even coming from 2560*1440.
High refresh rate is really nice but i wouldnt give up the details for the speed. Gsync helps too, and this 32" will be enough for a few years.
