Prime day seems to be hyped up to no end, but when it comes to it they have only a handful of decent deals to get people hooked and the rest seems to be the stuff they have left in the warehouse and need rid of so they slap a 'lightning sale' badge to it and people get sucked in in the moment.

But thats true of most sales - a bargain is only a bargain if you get something that you were looking to buy anyway at a price cheaper than you were prepared to pay!

Yeah, 99% of the stuff is no name/brand gear with big "discounts". Might get a deal on a Fire TV though (mine has decided to only output at 480P, which is annoying).

Alright, the amazon prime sale is currently happening and I can safely say that nearly all items are cheap unknown brands and the bigger brands have very small discounts which you could easily find just by looking around. This is another disappointing year which just appears to be dedicated to selling prime membership.

Re: Amazon announces third annual Prime Day is 11th July

There's some good prices on Amazon devices, £79 for the Echo seems pretty good, but the rest is pretty average. If you check the price history sites, some things are actually no cheaper than they have been at other times of the year.
Curry's are having a one day sale in response, £99 for Google Home! Still don't need one but it's on my 'nice to have' list.

Nah, nowhere near high enough. It'd have to be vastly more before I'd ..... sorry, what's that? .... they want us to pay them? Wherever did they get a daft idea like that?

What I did check out was the Kindle Voyager, which is £40 off, but as it requires a £59 Prime membership, for which I have no use for or interest in, it still works out more expensive than just buying one .... which I'm not doing at full prices, at least until/unless my current Kindle curls up it's toes.

Could you have joined up for the 30 days free? Then cancelled straight away?

Good question. Probably, knowing Amazon. But to me that just feel's ..... deceitful, when I know, up-front, I'm not interested in Prime. It might well work, but I wouldn't do it. Or, not over a paltry few quid, anyway. I might have my price, but I've also got my pride.
