Well from what I gather they are not easy to repair too - I wonder how many of these failures are down to thermal issues??
"predicted reliability". let that sink in. I wont be buying consumer reports anymore.
I've had Surface 3 Pro from the week it came out. Never had any issues. Please show me a comparable Windows machine with better reliability.
People with failures are more likely to respond to feedback requests.....numbers are skewed IMO.
Would have been good if MS had actually posted some hard evidence though.

I suggest CR need to look at the way they rate products, or at least the weight they give to respondents of their surveys as the only reason, from what i can tell, for the downgrade is that "A number of survey respondents said they experienced problems with their devices during startup. A few commented that their machines froze or shut down unexpectedly, and several others told CR that the touch screens weren’t responsive enough."
And yet CR's own lab test say "Several Microsoft products have performed well in CR labs, including the new Microsoft Surface Pro, which earned Very Good or Excellent scores in multiple CR tests. Based purely on lab performance, the Surface Pro is highly rated...", so it seems the only reason they downgraded it was because of consumer feedback and I'd suggest with tablets and laptops consumer feedback isn't reliable, either because of the way Microsoft treats customers as beta testers or the sort of things customers do to their laptops and tablets.
My Surface 2 touch screen doesn't work because of a firmware update and there's no way to rollback the firmware. This is a common issue. Absolute rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishe!
This is very surprising - Microsoft have a reputation for making excellent, very reliable hardware - up there with what Apple used to be 10 years or so ago before their quality dropped and prices went up.
I am typing this on my Surface Pro 2 which has lasted 4 years of abuse. It's my travel machine and is very beaten up, covered in scratches and dents..yet still working perfectly - even the touch screen despite the scratches. I still use a 10 year old microsoft mouse at work that i've transferred between machines as it just keeps on going (if you keep the sensor clean). Even still have a sidewinder that still works fine.
I agree with what shaithis has said i'm pretty sure this will just be as those who had a problem responded, but the vast majority who's kit is still just working fine have not.
All that said, does it really matter? Who really cares about "consumer reports" and what they think?
It's not the hardware that caused them to drop it from the recommendation list, it was all the botched updates.
