As someone who tried a Vive recently (in Butlins of all places) but can't afford it can I be hopeful Google will sell them cheap? I expect Google only really care for the phone manufacturing and patents so I won't be surprised if this never happens.

So HTC phones will be phased out and the Google brand will be all that remains. I doubt they'll keep two seperate brands running with two distinct styles, etc. Shame as I always liked HTC's style, until they binned the 3.5mm jack and started making phones out of glass rather than metal.
The news is out. Alphabet's Google has struck a $1.1bn (£822m) deal with Taiwan's HTC to expand its smartphone business, reports the BBC. There's a Google blog post about the arrangement.
Was hoping to get a vive soon but might wait to see how this changes things first.
They've signed a deal
