when 8th gen Intel is inside i'm in for two of these.
My surface book is serving me well and it's definitely one of my favourite pieces of tech I have ever bought. The form factor and versatility is perfect and I see myself using it for many years to come. I do hope they release an update when the time comes to upgrade.
I still running my S Pro 3 and it is great device. Ehhh but that price...
The Surface Pro is the premium device i will always aspire to buy...but never have the cash for!
Anyone that thinks this product is good better read this report.

North of 2 grand for DDR3?
That intel chip is nice, it's a shame we don't see it turning up in more laptops or selling for a reasonable price.

£2150 for a glorified tablet. LOL.
From that link some of the comments state only a one year warranty:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...sked-questions
You have to pay another £180 for an extension of the warranty to two years. What does the warranty cover, and how long are my Surface and accessories covered?
Your Surface standard limited warranty has two parts:
Limited hardware warranty: Includes service on hardware and covered accessories for one year from the date of purchase. Covered accessories include the Surface branded accessories.*
Technical support: Provides help and technical support on preinstalled software for the first 90 days after purchase.

Cat you are missing the point entirely.
I have half a dozen people working for me, keeping my platform tested, developed etc. But sometimes things go wrong, as we've got users Monday Sydney to Friday US time, ultimately I'm the last line of on call. The Surface Pro can run my entire development stack, sql server, IIS, webpack-dev-server in 800grams. With a respectable battery life to boot.
This is a special kind of premium market.
As for the £180 for two years, that's a complete insurance including accidental damage, under EU law (for now at least) you get two years of hardware despite what they say on the site, I can confirm this was automatically applied in the warranty portal.

£2150 for a glorified tablet using a Core i3 with dubious reliability. But wait, its not £2150 - if you want two years warranty plus a "keyboard",that makes it nearer £2500.
This should be £2150 WITH a THREE year warranty and the keyboard included.
One year warranty for a "premium device". So basically they only expect one year of lifespan like Apple says for their iPhones:
https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/a...rgues-in-court
These companies are taking the mickey with warranties now. They are making them shorter and shorter and then if you want the actual warranty they sell it back to you.
I wouldn't touch any "premium" device with a one year warranty with a bargepole.
People have such low expectations nowadays they just except it. If Dell and Lenovo,ie,less "premium" brands can offer standard three year warranties, then the RICHEST software company in the world should have no problems offering three years standard warranty on a £2000+ tablet with a Core i3.
This says to me they have zero faith in the longevity of their products.
The so called Core i7:
https://ark.intel.com/products/97537...up-to-4_00-GHz
Its a low voltage Core i3. So basically you are saying all your work can run fine on a low voltage Core i3 which will no doubt thermally downclock when stressed.
I would expect such a chip in a £1000 tablet not one which is well over £2000 with a one year warranty and with MS PR no doubt trying to bury reports of poor reliability.
MS is now doing an Apple with regards to pricing, except since everyone has to instantly auto hate Apple on tech forums,MS instantly gets a pass. If this was an iPad Maxi I expect people will go LOL at the price.
So in the end all of that work can be done on a cheap laptop.
The only thing about premium nowadays=looks shiny.
Considering this is basically a Core i3,it must be ruggedised, right?? Surely that is why it costs a lot, right?? No it isn't. Is it drop proof?? Is it weather sealed?? If it needs to be pampered out in the field then its pointless. But no doubt you can spend even more on a decent case which adds another layer to the cost.
Edit!!
Plus Hexus makes a very good point:
So within the space of a year of Ryzen being launched, magically Intel is doubling core counts due to Raven Ridge being released in the next 6 months. The top-end Core i7 is a dual-core, quad-thread chip capable of speeds of up to 4GHz and comes with integrated Iris Plus 640 graphics to boot. Plenty of oomph, though do be aware that eight-generation Intel CPUs with more cores and threads are now available, increasing the odds of another Surface Pro revision in the near future.
You wait and see, this Surface will be replaced at the same price with 4C/8T ones within a year. Its already out of date.
EU law - what about the rest of the world. So MS are doing the minimum warranty they can on a £2000+ "premium" tablet. For a "premium" device they should be offering three years as standard.
Plus my home insurance covers accident damage!
If this was PC World charging £180 extra for another year of insurance on a tablet and accidental cover, people would be having a go at them.
The hilarious thing is JL added cover for two years costs "only" £75 and that is worldwide too. So MS is ripping you off on that too.

You are looking at it wrong. What's the competition?
It's powerful enough only with the higher clock speeds, well honestly the RAM.

Got an SP4. There are still issues where it won't come out of sleep/hibernation properly. I can't issue equipment to my team in that state.
