Nope, it's November. Shocked, but this is good for both companies I think.
This was long awaited. With the new mobile GPUs, neither Nvidia nor Intel itself has anything that comes close in such a small package and thermal envelope.
Sounds great....wonder if it lives up to expectation
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
Huh, looks like the rumours were true. I wonder if the HBM is available as system RAM, or just VRAM? Likely the latter, of course.
Interesting that this is actually happening considering they poo pooed the claims about 6 months ago. This can only be good for AMD as they can pump the profits from this tech collaboration into their CPU and GPU R&D which in turn would benefit both amd and intel shareholders and the end consumer. But this proves that AMD has done something right about Vega for Intel to consider dropping their Iris products in favour of Vega.
Is this contributing to a general lack of availability of Vega chips for AIB partners, HBM2 shortages for current consumer cards, AMD's own APUs I wonder.
I imagine this is and feels like AMD are slightly shooting themselves in the foot, let's hope they got good terms from Intel for supplying them.
Not sure where you're getting the "dropping Iris" from? This looks like another tier of products completely.
Two thoughts on the actual announcement. How much does EMIB and this power-sharing stuff sound like AMD's infinity fabric and precision power? And how many bets on AMD releasing a discrete GPU at some point in the near future that mysteriously has near-identical specifications to this "custom-to-Intel" chip....

I had a third thought on the story, actually: I'd like to question the definition of "surged" in relation to share prices...
Also, is it just me or does it look like the intel CPU die has doubled in size in the before-after comparison? ETA: showing they used a 7th gen CPU for the before
The article makes it sound like intel were responsible for the interposer, which is odd. There are also those rumours of a new small vega replacing the 580...

For sure isn't today 1st of April? Because this new sounds just like one of those.
Its a cunning ploy by AMD. This won't compete with Raven Ridge,so AMD still will have the lead in IGP performance for mainstream CPUs,but for dGPU the area is dominated by Nvidia,so it gives them extra sales in that area which they can piggy back on Intel to gain some more reputation!
apparently we are experiencing "a cold day in hell"
That would assume that AMD are making the GPU rather than licensing the design, which from the text of the press release it sounds like the GPU is an Intel designed part. That raises the question, what clock rate can a Vega GPU hit on an Intel 10nm process??
Intel have been doing a high end MCM system for some time, like with Iris and with FPGA chips including RAM. They probably don't need an interposer to do this, so may well choose to stick to their own technology even if an interposer is cheaper. At their prices, they have options
I just hope Intel aren't writing the drivers!
