I had to re-read that a couple of times: Conventional Magnetic Recording.
Is that *really* what CMR stands for?
hopefully it won't be too long till these big drives come out at affordable prices, or at least push down the prices of 8tb drives under £100
It will, with one caveat, but the timescale is unclear.
The caveat is that while price/GB competitive pressure lowers prices furtyer down, there is a base price beyond which manufacture is not feasible, and is new technologies come with expensive new plant to install, then it may be a long time before that price pressure appears and if that base cost point rises too much, sub-£100 drives may never be feasible.
In other words .... who knows?

Could be. Bit awkward way to go about it, though. Still haven't found out, what PRM (from Toshiba's spec page), as opposed to PMR, is supposed to be. Who comes up with these things... (rhetorical question)
This is the new tape backups of the future. I can't seriously figure out what else these slow large drives would be for. Much too large to be reading/writing that much data off continuously so there is nothing here of any type of performance. I don't know where this would benefit the "cloud" because its too slow to use for anything quick. I suppose running unimportant vm's on these could be a thing but I just can't see hosting a drive of this size. Maybe in raid 15 where there is absolutely no way you can lose 14tb of data and its accessed by the slowest user base websites. "shrugg".
