As long as AMD has comparable CPUs I'm not touching Intel.

I'm sure they are already salivating at the sales they will make replacing old CPUs.

Strange, how we got here from "oh no all notable Intel CPUs for years have three concerning -> serious hardware level security flaws" without even making a stop off at "Meltdown damages Intel reputation" or mentioning something about IME. I suppose with the right wordplay they're preparing to make a killing just selling the same processors with subtle security improvements.
I mean, not that anyone could afford another new motherboard, set of DDR4 and nonexistent GPU.

Perhaps this is why the supply of the 8x00 series was always tight - Intel never really ramped up to full production, knowing that this generation would be short lived partly due to Spectre/Meltdown and partly because they always intended to accelerate their 8-core desktop deployment to properly counter Ryzen.

Well, for once, this problem actually needs a hardware replacement to fix properly. But yes, it's irksome that they'll make bank from their own screw-up. I just hope they've the good sense to not try to pull another coffee lake pricing on this one due to the fact that it was their fault, and hopefully the pressure from Ryzen will factor into that decision.

Re: Intel Meltdown and Spectre-proof CPUs to launch this year

I just hope the Ryzen APU and Ryzen+ perform better in games based on older engines, since I really don't want to get an Intel CPU for my next upgrade in light of the security issue, and the fact the Ryzen ecosystem seems more atuned to what I want too. But if the performance isn't there,Intel is my only choice which makes the Moose feel sad,as they really don't deserve to be profit from all of this.

Only thing you'll get free from Intel is a dip in your wallet.

I think it was in the thread on the Intel CEO being investigated for insider trading I said that I didn't think it would stick as I didn't think this would significantly harm Intel.

They survived POPAD, FDIV, SMP cache coherency problems, dodgy SATA ports and countless other severe problems that had some people doing the arms in the air "wailey wailey, we're all doomed" but in the end was just business as usual.
