    Sounds great to me.

I often hear older generations jump straight to grumbling and complaining as soon as they hear about initiatives like this, as if the masts are going to double the size of the spire and cover it in metal!

The reality is all the equipment can be very well hidden these days.
As long as "does not impact on the character and architectural or historic significance" is observed then I really don't see the problem.

I've seen some radio and mobile broadcasting equipment disguised so well I didn't notice it until someone pointed it out to me, even on listed buildings!

Re: Church spires to become mobile masts in UK's rural areas

I'm all in favor, I have no signal in my house but a great view of the local CoE church tower
It would even go a long way to appeasing my annoyance of the Sunday morning alarm clock, which admittedly is only an issue after a heavy Saturday night

They already have lightning conductors, I presume any antenna will have to be lower than that else it becomes the new lightning conductor

They've already been doing this with WiFi internet services for rural areas, I suppose extending to mobile is not surprising. I'll be sure to wave at the installation guys at Norwich next time I pass by.

I'm really shocked by this. Really, really shocked as it's a pretty good idea.
Grab that. Get that. Check it out. Bring that here. Grab anything useful. Take anything good.

Good for churches too as it will generate income from renting the space.
