Hexus article needs to use better images from Android Headlines.
I was wondering what teh heck I was looking at, until I saw their own photos and realised it's actually three phones on a triangular pyramid display:

I guess this is aimed to the RGB LED ridden crown.I'm curious about the fans thoug. Will they make a jet-like sound when playing a flight sim? How much time will pad until those tiny vents and fans get clogged with dust? And finally, do the fans actually help making the experience better or it's just a gimmick?

Re: Nubia gaming phone features quad-air cooling

Aerodynamic phone? I assume this is to enable you to "ragethrow" the phone as far as possible? This has the dual bonus of also executing a ragequit in the process (or towards the end of the process, just before the second bounce).

Battery will be critical in this phone. One of the advantages of throttling back due to heat is that it improves battery life and if you manage to run an SoC at higher speed for longer you will utterly destroy the battery life. I think this is well demonstrated by Anandtach in the iPhone 7 review but I can't be bothered checking.

You may find that in terms of playability there is no perceptible difference between short term high performance and throttled performance yet the battery life is radically reduced. Obviously this will depend on how well they balance performance and throttling out and if they get it wrong, it's not a tragedy as this is something that can be easily tweaked in OTA updates. Hell, if it's a really gamer / nerd centric phone then they may give you a degree of manual control over the governor.

After all the nagging we've done as consumers to get IP ratings on phones, now they're actively sucking in the rain drops.

Myself if I was into portable gaming to this extent, I'd want something like a PSP and then tether it to a mobile if I really needed an internet connection. When you do things like this you compromise in far too many areas.

ah... now the image makes some sense.

Those fans look tiny, I'm betting they make a horrible whine when they spin up. Let alone the dust and fluff issues. So no screen or battery specs? Seems remiss to exclude that information when competing against the likes of the Razer phone.

Re: Nubia gaming phone features quad-air cooling

I'm curious who actual games on a mobile? I've really really tried but apart from the odd tower defence game touch controls are basically rubbish (I've even tried bluetooth controls which hold the phone but too fiddly). Add in the fact that most games are now free to play junk I've just about given up. I did however get a switch which having 'proper' games and proper controls just makes portable gaming so much more enjoyable.
    Trust

    Laptop : Dell Inspiron 1545 with Ryzen 5500u, 16gb and 256 NVMe, Windows 11.

I hate mobile gaming because every game feels like it's designed to monetise your every action or progression. I would rather pay a fiver for a decent rts than play 1 second of these awful clash of clans esque strategies, even if they are free.

And that is not unique to mobile, so I don't see the need for mobile gaming to be demonised as if it were.
There are good and bad examples on every format, and every platform.

Re: Nubia gaming phone features quad-air cooling

It might not be unique to mobile, but it's certainly more prevalent. Publishers are trying to shoehorn microtransactions into games more than ever, but there has at least been some push-back against it, like with Star Wars BF2.

With mobile games, they're designed from the ground up to milk you of money. so there is a large difference, at least for now.

Re: Nubia gaming phone features quad-air cooling

I don't bother with my phone for gaming as the games just aren't up to scratch, I am still rocking a 3DS for my mobile gaming.

Looks a good device, should help reduce the build up of pocket fluff.

I played Mass Effect Infiltrator on mobile and it was alright once you got used to the controls... except I never got completely used to them.
A couple other games have been alright, mainly puzzlers.

But in general mobile games are just naff piles of spit.
