I still think I will get AMD as well. Strange that one decent release from a rival prompts huge changes eh!

Same here, I'm pissed at Intel for holding back for all these years.
It might be their products and technology, & what they did might make business sense to them, but hurts the consumer in the end.

That was quick! So KL had a very short lifespan, and CFL even a shorter one!!

Having said that, unless Zen+ has much better performance in one or two older engines over Zen,I probably will be getting CFL sadly,as Zen is barely better in some games than my ancient IB CPU. Its sad when an AMD partner CBA to even bother optimising its own games for Zen.

Well, er, yeah. That's called competition. Intel have no real incentive to do anything if they have a monopoly on the market. I haven't had an AMD since the Thunderbird days and I vowed then never to go back to AMD, but Threadripper would be my first port of call if I was in the market at the moment. Question is, can they keep it up. AMD release some great stuff, but have always seemed to have lack the pace that Intel can deliver when competition appears.

Going to wait it out until 9th Gen, for a number of reasons.

Re: Octa-Core Intel Coffee Lake-S processor spotted

Funny, from what I have been seeing/reading. I think next year AMDs 7nm will be a 12 core die, which will fit into the AM4. Then AMD can turn that 12 core into a 24 core theadripper.

Chances are AMD can come out with a 12 core at the beginning of 2019! Wonder what Intel will do about that?

So how much have Intel been sandbagging and holding back on more-than-quad-core mainstream CPUs, before AMD's Ryzen gave them a kick up the arse?

Strangely enough, on a certain very big American tech site starting with the letter 'A' there were certain forum posters who used to maintain that lack of competition was good as, for instance, it allowed one company to get all the money to use for R&D rather sharing it out which the poster implied would be wasteful and inefficient. A very strange opinion except maybe for shareholders.

If Ryzen 3 (2) is 12 core 24 thread I'm buying it immediately, with the 7nm 5ghz promise and the likely B350 compatability. Immediately.

I get the logic, more money should equal better product development; but there's nothing like the idea that you're going to lose market/money/job to really get innovation done

We see this cycle between AMD and Intel, and AMD and Nvidia. Somebody gains the lead for a while and the other side has to rapidly react not to lose their market share. And it's interesting that they almost always do react pretty quickly, showing that they generally keep something up their sleeves just in case.

Of course, we're down to two for CPUs and two for GPUs. Lots of companies failed to innovate and react and have gone under or been gobbled up.

Re: Octa-Core Intel Coffee Lake-S processor spotted

Anyone know if these are 10nm? Is this cannon lake pulled in and rebadged so it doesn't look like Intel bailed on 2 chips inside a year? If this isn't 10nm I'm out, as I don't need a space heater or a much slower 8 core. At 10nm those 2 extra cores would essentially be free power/heat wise, and most likely without the need to slow it down much if at all.

It's sad that everyone buying current 6 core coffee lake is buying a dead board. I'm buying one anyway next month if AMD doesn't have faster speeds than rumored (hoping for intel sale...LOL), but it will be moved out quickly to another PC if the 8 core is 10nm. I really hope the 8 core isn't a dead in chipset too. I mean are we on a 1 chip per chipset roadmap with Intel now? If you buy top end upon chipset debut are you dead already again? I digress.

Lower cost boards have been spotted in Thailand.

    Also:

    https://twitter.com/VideoCardz/statu...91293104771077

So from what I'm hearing: April 2nd -- Intel B360/H370/H310 and the rest of CFL-S CPUs April 3rd -- CFL-H (notebooks) April 19th -- X470/Ryzen 2000 Of course, nothing is confirmed.

I think generally what companies keep up their sleeve is the risky stuff that is almost as likely to wreak the company as save it. Like the Pentium 4 should have stayed up someone's sleeve, and it could be argued the same goes for Bulldozer.
