For those wondering about 4's "unfortunate connotations in Asia", it can be pronounced "shi" - the same pronunciation as the Japanese word for death.

I wonder if the new Ryzen will actually be a _competitor_ to Intel vs just another CPU option.

It is a competitor in many things just not single threaded stuff. Because Intel have focused on that so have many software devs - I mean they still have mainly 2-core 4-threads in mobile ffs

But they should then call it Zen 4. The Zen Shi of AMDs competitors!

Same reasoning as why Toyota changed the name of the MR2 for the French market.
Grab that. Get that. Check it out. Bring that here. Grab anything useful. Take anything good.

No reference to number 4 in Haswell literature though. 4th generation doesn't translate into anything bad but the number 4 does

Perhaps they just thought the name fitted well and kept it

    5 seems fine but...

6 sounds like sex, should skip that for being too insensitive in the #MeToo climate.

7 ate 9, so it's clearly a violent cannibal, better skip that too.

8 is a single fat lady, we can't fat shame, better skip on that, unlike 8 with the cakes.

9 is half of a 69, refer to 6 above.

10 is good, is 10 good? Possibly, lets try 10.
