Yep I have a ryzen cpu and got this message.

"This system's AMD processor is not affected by the Meltdown vulnerability and it has been updated with new features required to allow its operating system to eliminate the Spectre vulnerabilities and/or to minimize their impact upon the system's performance."
"A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in."

Re: QOTW: Is your PC protected against Meltdown and Spectre?

    No and No.

Perhaps I would eventually if I was running W10 and the performance impact was reduced; the chances of MS supplying the microcode for earlier OS' appears to be slim to none. Good luck getting a new BIOS update from your 'board maker if it's more than ~3 years old.

Who's vulnerable to Total Meltdown on W7/Server 2008, introduced by Microsoft via Windows Updates during January to March and with an exploit available on Github?

Re: QOTW: Is your PC protected against Meltdown and Spectre?

Everything but spectre although there is a motherboard bios available, I'm just being lazy updating it as I'm due to 'reinstall' everything soon so might as well do it at the same time.

Re: QOTW: Is your PC protected against Meltdown and Spectre?

Both mine and my wifes pc's are protected against Meltdown but are both vulnerable to Spectre and that is something that will probably not change as Giagbyte and Asus abandoned the Haswell platform years ago.

Re: QOTW: Is your PC protected against Meltdown and Spectre?

    Spectre & Meltdown Vulnerability Status

    System is Meltdown protected: YES
    System is Spectre protected: NO!
    Microcode Update Available: YES
    Performance: SLOWER

.....and I'm just going to disable the Meltdown protection....

Also, Gigabyte still suck, they have the microcode available to them and yet still will not release an updated bios. So if the system isn't protected from one, why even bother with the other?

No, Asus haven't done a patch for my board. To be honest, there's nothing on my PC that makes me think "I've got the throw money at my PC".

Re: QOTW: Is your PC protected against Meltdown and Spectre?

    Meltdown yes. Spectre no.

Windows 7 on an older laptop and on a z77 board. Fat chance Asus will do a bios for my board and the laptop, forget it.

So, if I understand correctly, I either have to pray to the bios gods, the windows 7 patcher gods, switch to windows 10 and/or buy new gear when it all funtions perfectly well.

Grab that. Get that. Check it out. Bring that here. Grab anything useful. Take anything good.

Re: QOTW: Is your PC protected against Meltdown and Spectre?

This is to the last three or 4 comments above. I had to contact Asrock and Gigabyte directly, using the support section of their respective sites. Both of my systems are Ivy Bridge Z77 motherboards, with recently released micro-code updates. Neither company has put the updates on the boards' respective support sites, however they sent me the bios updates via email, I installed them, and everything works fine.

It may take MONTHS for your motherboards' site to be officially updated, but my personal experience is that my 2 motherboards from 2012 now have bios updates, all it took was asking for them, via the appropriate channels.

Meltdown Yes, Spectre No. Asus gave up on bios updates for my 2011 motherboard in 2012.
