    Logitech MX1000 Mouse

...this mouse is a great example of new technology in this specific market, and you would not be wrong - Logitech have raised the barrier when it comes to cordless mouse performance.

Cleverly packaged, and with out-of-the-box use, the MX1000 appeals to graphics professionals gamers and mainstream users alike, comfortable and easy to use, the SetPoint software only extends its functionality.

Great looking product, but once again Logitech have discrimated against left handed users. I can can use a mouse right handed but why should i when i'm more comfortable using my left hand. Left handed users should boycott all logitech poducts regardless of how good they are. As for mice i'm going to stick with my Razer Diamondback.

"Only works on Windows 98 onwards"

How is that really a negative point?

Was the version on test really that matt effect finish that it looked in the photos? cos it's completely different to the version of the MX1000 I've got.. (will post pics when I get home..)

The version tested on the review was the green version, but due to the lighting it looks matt, it’s not the easiest thing to photograph

I take your point about the Windows 98 comment though, true the numbers may be limited, but at the time of writing I suppose it had more meaning, on reflection you may have a point, but hey, constructive Criticism is good

The mouse does work to an extent in Linux, but not natively, i.e. theres no software provided by Logitech for the Linux operating system, but in looking around you can configure the 5 buttons on the device if you use something equivalent to xmodmap apparantly, but obviously this is not direct out-of-the-box usage as the review reports.

I'd agree with that, and the review. Its a superb mouse it totally blitzes my MS wireless. Even in UT2004 its incredibly accurate. If wireless technology continues to improve there will be no reason to get a wired mouse in the future.

BTW how long should the batteries take to charge from the red?

Quick question (i know i'm thick!). Would the keyboard from my cordless desktop mx set work with the baseunit for this mouse?. Really fancying an MX1000 but i don't want to be left needing to buy another cordless keyboard or having to have the receiver for my old set stuck on the desk as well...

hmmm, it got quite a slagging in PCZone. Apparently it keeps cutting out the laser when you lift the mouse up a certain amount, and then takes a little while to kick in again after you set it down.

    Anyone care to comment?

Yes it does this for safety reasons. Although the laser is deemed safe to the human eye, Logitech are protecting them selves from stupid people shining the laser in their own or other people's eyes, the last thing they want is some one sueing them because the laser damaged their eye(s). As for it taking a while to kick in, this simply isn't true with my mouse. And you can't use a mouse in mid air any way...

A complete non-issue, I tried and tried to reproduce the problem, but simply couldn't.
The mouse still functions roughly an inch in the air, and once the laser does turn off, the speed at which the laser turns back on again when you return it to the desk is pretty much instant.

Maybe they had a pre-release version for early testing with a couple of bugs, as I've never had a problem with it.

I was the one that wrote the review for the site, it was my first one so be gentle with me

I have used the MX1000 for over three months now and have not had a single issue of delay on the lifting that many have reported, when writing the review I can always consider the other views on the device, but as a reviewer I am writing what I beleive to be a true reflection of a product in use. I have used the device on an average sized mouse mat and not had any problems with the alignment of the device nor the speed at which it responds to being lifted. In all honesty there would only be a few applications where lifting the device during use would become a neccessity in real life, but each person uses the device in a different way.

Like Stoo I had tried and tried to replicated the problem I had heard so much about, but I can't report in a review about something I could not personally replicate. The review I did was based on my experiences with the device and was a pure reflection of my personal true findings. If I could replicate it I would have written about it in the review and taken issue with the problem, but as other have said, as well as myself, the issue many reported was a non issue for me.

Thank you to those who have responded positively to my review, I hope to be doing more such reviews in the coming months and will strive to make sure that everything you read from me is accurate, informative and in certain cases, an amusing read as well

    Regards m@

Hi, I'm from Canada. Don't know if it makes a difference but I'm hating my mx1000.
As reported on the Logitech website I'm having issues with the mouse pointer jumping to the top of the screen & not releasing an object when you click on it. Found the quick fix is to bang it on the desktop. "More out of frustration" or maybe giving it a few shakes in the air sometimes releases the object you've just clicked. Lots of fun in the middle of a game. HA!
Currently Logitech's answer is to install the latest update (which I did upon the initial installation). Or they say it may be from using a black mouse pad. (sounds like they're reaching to me). I did try another colourful! mousepad (waist of time).
OK. Enough bashing. I purchased this mouse on my past experiances with Logitech mice. Have always had good luck until now.
Any ideas for a fix would be most welcome!
    Ty for your time, Aubin45
