MacBook Pro teardown reveals membrane over keyswitches

iFixIt reckons this is all about ingress-proofing and not about keyboard quietness.

I still don't get why people buy Apple, they know they've a problem, they don't acknowledge it and now you have to gamble that they've actually done something that might have fixed it based on 3rd party speculation.

Why on earth would anyone drop thousands of pounds on that.

Easy. People with too much money or too little brain cell count.

It is not so complicated guys. For Apple speaks their reputation and an aura of exclusivity. One problem with the keyboard doesn't change a thing.

Exactly - mere speculation. But if it has reduced noise and fixed the ingress of dust etc - its a win-win.

The problems, the fault, the issue isn't speculation.

The fact it might be fixed is. It could easily not be fixed.

It's the iPhone4 all over again where I was made to feel as if I was somehow wrong for saying everytime I go to pick it up, the call drops. As if I was somehow holding it wrong, when it fact it's utterly shoddy design.

That's pretty much Apple in a nutshell, all flash, no substance. I've taken to watching Louis Rossmann repair videos on YouTube just to see all the different ways Apple's garbage engineering self-destructs. Super pretty boards, though.

The speculation is over the motive for fitting the membrane. The article was implying that the real motive was to fix the dust ingress issue, not the sound deadening. That was the speculation!

But it makes a good headline!

I really just don't understand how.

Maybe I'm disloyal, but I'm happy to throw stuff under the bus when it annoys me. My SP3 throttling when I was just using outside in Singapore due to it being 30°C+ being an example of something incredibly annoying I wish I'd known before purchasing the i7.

However this.... This is just silly:

Why put an i9 in something that can't handle it, yet isn't designed to be an ultra portable?

What's worse is that people blindly buy Apple products even after they've been proven and known to have designed in obsolescence for a decade. Apple purposefully uses components that are underrated, or just barely rated, for the use case, so that they basically have weak points in the system that fail within 2-4 years.

And yes, idiots still spend way too much on their Macintosh junk.

I don't think it's quite the same peterb, when you've got a $7k laptop that isn't going to be faster than the much cheaper version. The i9 with that thermal system should be illegal it's cooling is so bad, how do we let people sell such things to the trusting masses?
