Re: SteelSeries Arctis Pro + GameDAC

You better hope those cables with a proprietary connector last longer than the headset itself because you'll be hard pressed getting replacements. I have the original Icemat (later SteelSeries) Siberia headset, which also has great sound quality. At some point the cable with the inline volume control developed a defect. I contacted SteelSeries for a replacement but was told to go buy a new headset instead. Unsurprisingly I wasn't pleased with that reply.

In short: great headsets, lousy customer support.

Which exact model is that? I didn't think they had a replacable cable- I know some SteelSeries have detachable cables, but not sure about that one. Have you got a photo you can host up here for me?
I think I might know the right people to ask - hey, it might not be viable, but I'm happy to ask because the UK team are v helpful.

They dont even sell the old siberia v2's. I had same problem, so bought similar model of amazon, i think v200 or something for around 40 quid, but they were so cheap and sound was nothing like v2's. I just instantly returned them, taped old v2 wire with gaffe tape and so be it.

It's this version. The cable in question is the one in the lower right side in the second image (the one right under "Products & Specs"). The headset itself doesn't have a replacable cable, but a short one that then plugs into the extension cable with the inline volume control. It's this extension cable (or rather the inline volume control, I suspect, which is knackered). As you can see from the date of the review the headset is quite old at this point (I got mine around 2006), although the problem also happened years ago. I found a cheap quality replacement for the extension cable, but it's never really been the same as the original one. Still, it's an ancient headset by today's standards. I really wouldn't bother looking for a proper replacement, but thanks for offering.

Well, my experience may not be your experience, and Zak33 says the UK support is quite good. Maybe that also holds true for the US support. Also, my experience lies quite a few years back, so something might have changed for the better.

I wouldn't rule out the headset just because of my experience, because SteelSeries *do* make some good sounding kit.

Re: SteelSeries Arctis Pro + GameDAC

Rightyo good people, information for all :-)

My man at SteelSeries is going through the cupboards for the really old cables just in case (unlikely, don't hold your breath Azrael)

BUT.......new product spares are dead easy and sensible money

    SteelSeries Spares & Accesories

Check that out, loads of spares :-)

Arctis Pro (inc DAC) main cable £9.99, which is very sensible for a premium £200+ headset.

"Exclusive accessories" ...does that mean there's just one of each?

BTW, thanks for checking. Much appreciated.

The mic is a weird choice, considering they do a flush version; I have the 9H and the mic clicks into the headset, you can't even tell it's there.

Re: SteelSeries Arctis Pro + GameDAC

Reading through the comments I feel like I should share my experience with SteelSeries, as it still absolutely blows me away.

OK so however long ago I bought a set on the cheap on Amazon for £30 (from £70). Worked fine, no complaints, they were mostly for voice chat anyway. However one day the mic stopped working, so I contacted em. I just wanted a replacement, not a refund, as I was really happy with how comfortable they were. NP they said just send em back. However it turns out I'm a weapons grade walnut - there was NOTHING WRONG WITH EM. Some weird windows thing had happened and disabled the mic, without actually flagging it. So I contacted SteelSeries to apologise for wasting their time, and not to worry we're all good.

They thanked me for telling them. Then they refunded the headset as a store voucher. And not the £30 I paid for it, the full value! They basically gave me £70 for nowt! So remember kids, honesty is the best policy

I added a tenner and bought the 9H (which were also on sale, down from £100+). These are so good I've stopped using speakers for a lot of stuff because the quality of these is making my gaming more fun

So ya..SteelSeries have definitely got a customer for life from me
