Ah that old Kiss Ass Clause.. Graphics reinvented video.. just oozing with lips on ass.
If we even get close to that kind of fidelity in a game, i'll eat my entire outfit.
Sure it's Game Engine footage but it's pre-rendered dolled up to the nines marketing flumf. Alas, it is legal for them to do though!
Not interested until I see some benchmark scores.
All this is completely theoretical until we see existing titles benched and real world scores/results.

They mentioned that the rigs they had there were using the new bridges.....so guess at least 2 GPUs for many of those videos, if not more.....and at £1200 per GPU!
Although my guess is they were rendered on the $60k rig lol

So none of those video's actually show someone playing the game, which is what really matters, everything shown there could easily have been produced in programs like 3DS Max and made to look like it was from the game. They're little better than pre-rendered cut scenes.
Very underwhelming. It shows potential for a few generations time, but it's clear there isn't the power to do more that one particular aspect at a time. I thought the reflections in battlefield were ace, but the shadows and lighting were rubbish old school. The tomb raider shadows were nicely dynamic.. but in reality no better than the old dynamic light source/stencil approach from neverwinter nights way back when. The metro demo was potentially the most impressive for me, if that really was a single global light source, but it didn't really look like it - there was a ray traced highlight certainly, but the lighting of other parts of the scene seemed to change stepwise as if there were some old school global illumination approximations (ambient occlusion) going on as well. The refracted light from the windows was horribly juddery as well.
Combine all three and it'd be more impressive.. especially if in something like the TR demo they cast rays to the individual particles of the flame rather than a single point. But even then I don't see anything worth getting a card upgrade for just yet.
So, actually what is so good on those videos ? I cannot see the difference from the properly made scenes using "normal" techniques. There is lots of fidelity - but that is not related to ray-tracing. I guess this is why they didn't give any comparison video with ON/OFF ray-tracing ?

Very true - I am personally less interested in Ray Tracing/4k at this stage and more hopeful that the 2080 will do what the GTX1080 promised....smooth high framerate gaming @ 1440p and ultra settings. The 1080 comes close but all too often I find myself turning something down to maintain 60fps+.
I expect it will do given that the 1080 achieves that perfectly at 1080p, but we'll see as the benchmarks roll in over the next month!
I think I'm buying a Vega 56. This stuff isn't impressive enough to make me want to spend nearly a grand when I could spend ~£400 (it's still pre-order at that price but I'm in no rush). I was tempted to get a 1070 but frankly I'd rather pay slightly more and stick it to Nvidia.
This is what the 2080Ti can do. But during gameplay, probably not at 4K60. Still, this tech will mature over the next couple of years. Like all new tech, it takes time for it to truly shine.
Don't forget that in 2015 and the 980Ti it was all about 4K gaming. And that didn't really happen until the 1070/80 cards.
I appreciate these kinds of vids, as its a showcase of what the boffins are working on, and what will eventually become mainstream.
