Some are hailing the 9700K as best for gaming but I am a little concerned that the it is neck and neck with the 2700X with the 2600 sitting over its shoulder. Now, these benches have to be take with a massive salt lake pinch but I would be interesting in seeing if they're consistent!

Is this the one without hyper threading?

Yes, the 9900k is the one with HT.

Looked on the linked site and there's cinebench numbers which really show it's pretty poor for multithreading, which is far more important than single threaded performance to me.

Based on the other benchmarks I have to say I'd be going ryzen 7 (ignoring the fact I'll likely be going threadripper next) as the odds are it will be cheaper than the intel option.

It's what I'd do. Cheaper overall platform for similar results and hopefully less.....ahem.... security issues.

Does anyone know yet if the refresh includes mitigations for spectre et al?
