What happens if the GPU maker renames a GPU line?

Only a guess but wouldn't a renamed GPU line also have a changed device ID, I'm probably wrong, and with luck someone can correct me, but i assume some of the IDs (vendor, board, device) can't be changed via a BIOS update as they're fixed in the hardware registers.

Re: GPU-Z version 2.12.0 flags up fake Nvidia GPUs

GPU-Z 2.13.0 is out today with some bug fixes.

Fixed missing fan speed sensors for pre-Turing cards using GeForce driver 400 and newer
Fixed some rare crashes during GPU-Z startup
Minimize on close will now trigger on "Close" button click, Escape key, ALT+F4. Use the tray icon menu to exit GPU-Z when
    "minimize on close" is enabled.
Screenshot button tooltip will no longer be visible in screenshots
