Get a Pocophone F1 and put Lineage OS on it courtesy of Linus' lovely video guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsHtfLh6azw

    Save £400 and be happy!

The more you live, less you die. More you play, more you die. Isn't it great.

None of which have the Pixel's excellent camera, which is one of the top reasons to get a Pixel (though no doubt the cheaper phones are getting better in this regard, in good light anyway).

Though the battery is dying rapidly I've retained my dying Nexus 6P for the camera (which is still solid) and the better GPS, so if I'm going out somewhere I'll take that rather than my Xiaomi Mi A1. Otherwise the Mi A1 will probably be just as good as this new Pixel (has stock Android and monthly updates - only missing Android Pie for now).

Priced and marketed cleverly this Pixel 3 Lite could be a popular choice though. The only mid-range phone with a top of the line camera?

Not everyone focuses on the camera being the only USP of a phone. For me, which i think lines up a lot, it needs to have a good screen quality, good responsiveness and good lifetime of which the pocophone covers all three areas. I got a P20 Pro because it covers all those areas very nicely and I threw my towel in with it so my wife can take better photos of the kids than her S8.

The Pixel Lite is playing big boys pricing but can handily be beaten out by a phone nearly half its price.

It means another choice in the market though - a mid-high range phone with a top-of-the-line camera - that's what I'm getting at; It should have strengths and weaknesses different to its competitors.

It needs to be priced aggressively though. No point in bringing in such a phone (which if it's plastic will probably look cheap) and then pricing it the same as the Galaxy S9 (£570). It needs to undercut that.

weird to think that 10 years ago you could buy the iPhone 3g for about $199 and we're now speculating about a mid range phone costing 4x as much

Looking at the Oneplus 6T at £499, Huawei P20 at £399 and the Pocophone at £279.

With a midrange chipset and 32GB I can't see more than £399, maybe £4xx for the higher storage version.

I would go for the Pocophone, but it doesn't have NFC, so no Android Pay, which I use every day.
