Save money and emulate it on a Pi then?

The Pi's A53s are more powerful than the very low end A35s in this.

OTOH this has 1GB of fairly decent DDR3 memory, 16GB eMMC, comes with a case and some useful buttons, if you can get a Linux onto it.

Buy it for the case, replace the internals with a PI.

Re: PlayStation Classic teardown reveals MediaTek MT8167A

Disappointing really, I could just purchase a second hand full sized ps1 off ebay for less and then convert it into an emulation device that would do far more than just ps1 games. Also if I hollow out the controller ports and put usb there (a bit like what they have done with the mini anyway), it could even then take official XBOX360, XBOX 1, DS3 and DS4 controllers.

Depends on how many PSX roms you legally own (i.e. how many you have created by backing up your own legally purchased PSX discs for titles where that is allowed)...
For the vast majority of people it's much cheaper to buy one of these than to track down a copy of each of the included games. If you just want a few of them and have the knowledge to create a bin/cue and then package it into the right format, then sure it might be cheaper to DIY it.

For me personally £90 is too much to replay 2-3 of the games in that list that I really enjoyed which have not already been remastered on another platform. That said I was always a Nintendo guy at heart so i'm more excited by the prospect of a N64 version

Re: PlayStation Classic teardown reveals MediaTek MT8167A

Does seem expensive next to the other retro games consoles out there - especially when it's based on an open sourced emulator platform with half the options removed and a weird smattering of NTSC and PAL versions of games...
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!

Looks like much more effort than it's worth - I'd be more interested in when the copycat RasPi cases come out, or at least when the bricked ones start popping up on ebay so I can do my own

"PlayStation Classic can run games from a USB flash drive" says Liliputing today.

Spoke too son, I guess nothing is "too much effort" for hackers these days. There's a couple of USB exploits floating around already that crack it wide open. The emu isn't great across the board but it seems to do a fairly good job. Still can't justify buying one.
