I like the idea, but what difference does it actually make?

The price tag most likely. Asus seems to be on a: "Let raise the price even higher for these suckers".

If I ever make the move to water cooling a GPU, then I'd want to shrink slots, not increase them.

I wonder how this compares to the Gigabyte AORUS GeForce RTX 2080 Ti XTREME WATERFORCE 11G Graphics Card (stupid long name), which has a external 240mm rad.

Re: Asus ROG Matrix 2080 Ti with built-in AiO cooler announced

Maybe it's me and the fact I work in this type of field but it took them 2 years to essentially bolt a radiator on to the card instead of the heatsink....that's basically 2 years to allocate one slot for 'pci board' and 'connections', 1 slot for the rad and 1 slot for the fans, something like that should not have taken 2 years.

In that much time I would have expected it to be 'thinner' than that in all honesty as it kind of defeats the point if it ends up taking more space on the motherboard than a normal (and good quality) air cooled card option let alone a waterblock or hybrid..

well, you have to factor in 18 months of laughing-up-their-sleeves while they decide how much they`re going to charge for it.
