In the US, designs fall under the umbrella of patents - hence design patent. These are not utility patents where the objective is to encompass technical concepts.

Fun fact: fig 13-14 don't match fig 2-3 design... the two angle/curve is the same whilst one should be bigger that the other to accomodate one third in between.

Fun fact: Several folding screens have shown an element of expansion and contraction, which could account for this angular disparity and would make for better symmetry in the design aesthetic. Indeed, expanding while folding could be what separates and thus disconnects the 'closed' screen section, both deactivating it and allowing for the larger curve by which it envelops the other section(s).
