This is a launch worth waiting for, in my opinion.
It is definitely worth waiting for. My major hope is that clock for clock AMD has at least finally managed to match the IPC of Intel. At least in the general areas that people are moaning about.
That and the 8c/16t matching of the 9900k at CES at those thermals would be sweet.
I'll be getting the highest clocked 8 core variant, most likley the Ryzen 5 3600K.

This is one launch I've been waiting for so I can finally build a decent new PC for my mum for a fraction of the cost compared to an Intel platform, even if the IPC doesn't stretch as far as Intel it's worth the wait.

Well, it is if all you want is MOAR COARS!! For people who care about the platform, Threadripper 29xx on the X399 platform offers quad-channel memory and up to 60 PCIe lanes (v dual channel memory and max 20 PCIe lanes on AM4). So it depends on your workload. Still plenty of life in Threadripper yet.
And don't forget that we'll almost certainly see a new Threadripper release not too far down the line. It'll be interesting to see where they top that out now Ryzen's rumoured to be getting 16 Cores. I imagine they'll do 16, 24 and 32 core versions (4 chiplets with 4/6/8 cores enable each), with the lowest core-count bridging the gap between the consumer and prosumer space again (like they did with the original Ryzen/Threadripper line-up)
Seems with ram prices also coming back down this might just be reachable for my next rebuild.

AFTER all this Apple is going the ARM direction.
It's just a shame they can't go RISC-V, but they have a lot invested in ARM software now. No reason they can't make an ARM chip this quick.
Why does AMD care? Apple have never used AMD processors (afaik) so no loss. But it doez benefit them indirectly as a hammer blow to Intel.

It is great thing, and to think that similar is coming to consumer level is great.
Do you guys remember how i7-7700k was the top cpu to buy for most and it was just 4c/8t. Then AMD upped their game. Look at what you can buy now. Being AMD or Intel. It is the great CPU era again.
Wish AMD can bring the same fight on GPU side.
