Quake 2 was one of my favourite games back in the days. From the story mode to the multiplayer matches, I spent countless hours playing it. I even competed in a regional league!
Can't wait to see the RTX version out.
My lad and I play Q2 regularly. Co Op and Deathmatch.
IT runs on anything, and he's on second hand Dell All in One Core i5 with onbaord Intel graphics, so he won't be getting the RTX lushnes but it will be interesting to see it in the flesh on a 1060.

So...20yr old game looks better with modern processes slapped into it? NSS.
Wouldn't putting Ray Tracing (if, in fact, that IS his real name) into more recent games - AAA games from say 2018 or 2019 - give more of an indication as to how it improves things?
What am I missing?
You're missing that NVIDIA got an ongoing kind of fan made adaptation that had already been shown in a lesser state and people was already aware of it. It was smart marketing on their part to show how they were willing to help and get the project to, the best possible state and then show how amazing RTX features can be. They already have load of modern things qith RTX on and of course, to adapt a modern game would require develoçer cooperation and could get them into trouble. Definitely would get them into trouble if they just did it without any hand from the developer in it

Can't say anything about this looks exciting or a real step forward. Its just another advert to plug those overpriced cards at the top end.
the beauty of Q2 has always been the improvements that have been added to it over the 2 decades.
I had it... then I got a Voodoo card and it looked awesome in Glide.. then years later I installed it again on a newer card at higher res and it was more awesome.
the clock turns.. the game looks better
so you're missing nothing.. except it's nice that people do this and make a great game great again

Yeah, I played it again a couple of years ago when I had to re-learn using the keyboard in games. Looked nicer at the higher res, but one thing that's always struck me about the game is how dark it is (including the modern iterations). Like it was prime fodder for adding something like ray tracing.
Q2, first I got slapped so badly by my friends in it... then I got bots to practise with... my friends stopped playing Q2 with me when I started to shoot them in the air with the ray gun and more.... dunno why... but had a lot of fun doing such ^^
