Where are the small, compact phones suitable for normal pockets...
Come on Google, bring out a proper compact device.

Glad to see google targetting the cheaper end of the market with a decent camera now that Oneplus has abandoned that segment.
I had a note 1. People mocked me at work for having a phone to big for my pocket and more suitable for a handbag! Now try finding something smaller! I'm pretty sure everyone who mocked me now have 6"+ phones
Back to the article - this looks like a good move by Google but its still no Nexus 5 pricing. I miss that phone. £250ish and it had everything but a decent camera (snapdragon 800, decent ram, reasonable storage). £250 barely gets you a snapdragon 600 series phone now a days...
With that camera for that price, oneplus will have a hard time.
I'm due an "upgrade" which may end up being a downgrade. Google phones are known for being well optimised and if the camera is decent enough I've no need for a really powerful SoC and I don't do mobile gaming. So, as long as it's responsive and has decent support then this might be a winner for me. The only downside is that some of the Samsung bloatware is very useful to me and I just disable what I don't want so it's not a problem.
The HTC M7 was a flagship which didn't run on a flagship SoC. As long as it's well optimised, it's not really an issue.
£299 in 2013 for a non waterproof, plastic device with 16 GB of storage and a horrendous camera.
So £335 in today's money, which will net you a pocophone which is better in every way, other than software
Don't personally see a problem?
If the new one launches at £379, that would be a decent deal for the specs/experience

Am glad I picked up a Sony XZ1 Compact last year for 250. The last of the small phones without too much compromise, battery life brilliant.
Meh!
Seems overpriced for what it is. Snapdragon 675, I would expect at least a 730 at that sort of price. Better still, go for a Mi 9 which has a Snapdragon 855 for not much more money. Oh yes, plus a AMOLED screen bundled in. Not surprising Google isn't selling enough Pixels. Their pricing strategy isn't based on value for more money or even on quality.
