Where does a GTX 1070 fit into this mess? I'm still waiting to see when it makes sense to upgrade mine (and suspect I'm not alone).

The 1070 sits below the 2060 in performance, so you could gauge it based on the 2060 performance here. There is a more in depth look at these cards here (different resolutions etc.) that may help:

Exactly! I've never understood why there is such a focus on the current roster of cards - I know we want to see how they compare to them, but we also want to see if they are worth upgrading from previous generations.

There are 3 different 2060 SKUs in the line up for starters. Get rid of one of them and stick in a 1070, that a LOT of people have and are considering upgrading.

Re: Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT Pulse

I think it doesn't do too badly, considering it's within a few frames of the £50 more expensive 2070 super. Future driver optimisations will come, and make it even more compelling.
As an aside. When did a £400 graphics card become mid-range??

When people started buying 1080Ti's for 800€(or maybe when people started buying Titan cards). It opened the door for the 2080ti and the rest of them. It will certainly be worse later on. Even though RT technology(that nobody asked for) has a cost. NVIDIA wouldn't give it for free and of course AMD would and should align on it. It's business.

The question is why no one is including it. Is it part of the agreement with Nvidia as it's too close?

I agree, last time I upgraded my you, the GTX970, £400 was flagship price except for the titan model? Inflation hasn't gone up that much so it's not done to that!

Re: Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT Pulse

For those who have asked, we don't currently have a GTX 1070 reference card to hand, however I have managed to track down an FTW Gaming ACX 3.0 model from EVGA.

Below are a subset of FHD and QHD benchmark results using the latest driver as of today (v431.60). Hope you find the info useful, and do note that the EVGA is factory overclocked from 1,683MHz to 1,797MHz, so keep that in mind when comparing with your own 1070 card.

EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 FTW Gaming ACX 3.0 spec:

    3DMark Time Spy:

    Civilization VI: Gathering Storm:

    Far Cry: New Dawn:

    Forza Horizon 4:

    Tom Clancy's The Division 2:

    Total War: Three Kingdoms:

Re: Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT Pulse

Would it not be worth updating your existing graphs to add the 1070 on?

Does Hexus really only have a 1080Ti sat on the rack?

Re: Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT Pulse

    Thanks Parm!

It's a shame the overclock applied just doesn't seem to have done anything. The GPU is considerably cooler than with the stock cooler, it's got a custom PCB so should have plenty of power capacity spare, but it just doesn't use any of it - if AMD had a boost behaviour with their GPUs that was as good as zen2 then this card would have been an easy sell. The power consumption chart is really telling - a factory OC'd model should be needing more power if it's really OC'd.

Re: Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT Pulse

From my research I think a 5700XT should be within the realms of 1070ti in SLI. Plus or minus, depending on game.

But also from my research, I'm struggling to find a 5700XT with decent cooling that will fit into two PCIe slots.

Re: Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT Pulse

"Radeon Image Sharpening doesn't currently support DX11, meaning a fair few titles will be upscaled without AMD's contrast-adaptive sharpening algorithm."

"Here's Far Cry 5, a DX11 title, running at a native 3,840x2,160 resolution, and then scaled to both 90 per cent (3,456x1,944) and 80 per cent (3,072x1,728)."
Am I missing something? Why test a DX11 title if RIS doesn't support DX11?

The frame rate differences and image quality look similar across all three games... assuming RIS is not doing any boosting for Far Cry 5, does this mean that RIS isn't really giving much boost to The Division 2 and Civ VI?
