Less users means less people trying to hack it etc ............ could be the way to go!
I'm having a hard time upgrading or should I
say, down grading from Win7 to Win10 with all
the faulty and buggy updates that Win10 gets
and the spyware and bloatware associated with
this OS. Not to mention the added expense of
affording a new CPU & motherboard......
another reason not to.
100 % honesty, I haven't had ANY issues with Windows 10.
Clean install about 3 or 4 years ago. Absolutely fine and it still feels responsive to this day without any dodgy registry cleaners.

Honestly don't get all of the fuss about Windows 10 - I've been using it since it launched in 2015 and I haven't had a single problem with it. It has been through four major upgrades all of which have worked without a hitch. Times change, software moves on - get over it.

Nothing wrong with Win10, think theres a lot of undue hate for it, dont get me wrong, 8 was terrible, 8.1 better, 10, I really like it...
Or, for my needs, there's plenty wrong with it and the hate is well and truly due.
I am not, under any circumstances, upgrading my machines to W10. They're either staying as-is, or if an upgrade is needed, going Linux. MS can nag all they like .... not that I get any nags. Not a one.
Time for a little basil hunt for a registry key like XPs
This. It's like an old car, yes the airbags may never deploy or the infotainment be up to scratch, or the lock easy to break, but I don't see people going round to people's houses advising them to upgrade to a newer model when a car has far higher risks if you don't upgrade vs. an operating system.
Definitely no one should be made to feel guilty or pressured for choosing an old OS. If I had it my way Win 2000 is where I'd stay with a Vauxhall Omega, just to annoy everyone driving past.
While no one can actually stop you, you will run into issues with hardware support and software support. I made the jump to 10 last weekend and so far it seems ok. I've made the start menu look like the old 7 because that's what i know and like, currently trying to understand all the options for data transfer back to the mothership and what i need to block on the firewall, Updates will be tackled after that to try and get it to be like 7 (tell me there's an update but don't do anything unless I tell you to)
I could have stuck it out but i have a real bad feeling come Jan 14th, I am expecting some rather nasty stuff to be unleashed and I don't / can't afford the disruption.
For those i run VM's (i went through a period of getting every version from 3.1 onwards up and running.)
I have spare laptops, one with mint on and one that will be left on 7 due to the function it does but this rig is my 'main' so i took the option to upgrade for free
I had been running the windows preview insider in a vm on the win7 rig since it came out so the adjustment wasn't that big of a deal, but there are things i still don't like and actively try to change them back.
There are things out there that can not in anyway be moved from what they are on, hell i know of some saw mills that are running dos based pc's to control them and they can not be moved; when the device costs upwards of 200k they are not going to go out and replace that just because a new shiny turned up; the world of industrial devices is very different to the shiny home / corp and I work/support both.
I don't know about Apex, but I guarantee I will run into zero issues with several legacy machines. As Apex pointed out, industrial users with £200k machines aren't going to upgrade, and while my hardware, and legacy software, gets nowhere near £200k it does hit, conservatively, £10k+, and as a home/home-office user, I'm not going to change that due to OS changes either. These machines have been running, unaltered and un-upgraded for years without a single issue, and I see no reason why that would change .... short of hardware failure, for which I have a spares cupboard offering substantial redundancy. Frankly, I expect those setups to outlast me, and certainly, outlast my need for any of it.
What I don't do, or need, is connect any of them to the internet.
When a tool ain't broke, don't fix it, and like some of my grandfather's woodworking tools that I now have (and wish I was as good with as he was) I don't need new ones 'cos the old ones work just fine.
Internet-facing machine(s)? That's what Linux is for.
*Yawn* Another Win10 animosity thread.
Not animosity. A dose of realism for those that think because it suits them, it should suit everybody else. Well, it dossn't.
Case in point ...As has been pointed out from small professional home users (like me) to industrial and commercial users, there are circumstances where upgrading would just be stupid. One such is where a user needs to support hardware old enough for new drivers to not be available, or even where the manufacturer is no longer in business. Another is where necessary software won't run. I have a series of customised databases built using software no longer supported that won't run on 10 (or in some cases 7 or anything later) and where it would take werks, more likely months of my timecto build alternatives, port and then validate data.
And for what? To run an OS that does a load of things I don't need, or want, on those machines, but won't do what I do need? Sorry, but I've got better things to do with my time than waste it doing that.
Does W10 appeal to me? No. Not at all. So, for machines that do need to be more modern, I went Linux. MS moved on all right, butcnot in a direction that suits me. Thzt's not animosity but simple fact, just like having been driving BMWs for years, but buying something else if I don't like current models.
I long ago stopped caring what MS do/did with Win10, but when people "don't get the fuss", well, part of the function of a forum like this is to explain part of the fuss, so they do get it andcto correct the misunderstanding that because they like it, ecerybody that doesn't is wrong and needs to "get over it".
