Went pretty smooth and really really quick for a service pack update. I was so amazed that it went that fast. It's a first for me. No problem so far.

Re: Microsoft Windows 10 November 2019 update rolls out

The only thing i have missed in windows lately have been a video editor, i know there are something now but for a while i had to look elsewhere, and i will stay there as that cost me the same as a copy of windows.
Otherwise windows had all i needed a decade ago.

@Gentle Viking - if you're looking for something good and free for editing video, have a look at Davinci Resolve V16. It's way more capable than anything that comes bundled with any operating system and the basic editing tools are easy and intuitive to use (you can grow into the other features as and when you decide you need them).

Re: Microsoft Windows 10 November 2019 update rolls out

"largely up to you to initiate when an update occurs and increasing transparency throughout the update experience" now lets read between the lines.
Here's exactly the features you will be getting:

    https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2019/04/04/improving-the-windows-10-update-experience-with-control-quality-and-transparency/#YQypIW1FBIuuFvGK.97

The sad truth is, it still lacks the ability to set it how XP & W7 did. All I want is, every Sunday or every last Sunday at 11pm updates can download and install and reboot the PC. Why is it so hard to implement this in W10?

Do they take us for idiots: "so they occur when users are away from their devices to minimize disruptions". This is just as disruptive to some.

So I'll continue to use my own mechanism of a scheduled task to set the current LAN to non metered at this time, then reset it to metered once the process has finished. So based on the link above, there is still no more control over updates... thanks M$.

Re: Microsoft Windows 10 November 2019 update rolls out

    Microsoft being sneaky with updates.

    I was wondering what KB4524570 was yesterday.https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...date-kb4524570

Windows 10, versions 1903 and 1909 share a common core operating system and an identical set of system files. As a result, the new features in Windows 10, version 1909 were included in the recent monthly quality update for Windows 10, version 1903 (released October 8, 2019), but are currently in a dormant state. These new features will remain dormant until they are turned on using an enablement package, which is a small, quick-to-install “master switch” that simply activates the Windows 10, version 1909 features.
the 1909 update files were downloaded last month, the 'feature update to 1909' patch, that many wont put on until everyone else has beta tested it, well it kinda already is on if you are all up to date.

which is why the feature update only took 10 minutes.

dos no one else read the patch notes?

Re: Microsoft Windows 10 November 2019 update rolls out

@KultiVator i have had a "short" fling with pinnacle studio ultimate, but i am now on power director 17 ultimate.
Both have been vast overkill for my needs, but i have never been known to lowball anything :-)
I haven't gotten around to try the replacement for movie maker in windows 10, but i assume it can do the basic stuff i need.
But i am sticking with power director, just need to sample the windows thing to possible recommend it to others with basis free video editing needs.

I am of course familiar with Davinci Resolve but i have not tried that software out, but seem very capable too.

I'm considering finally updating from my now-ancient (but legit) Premiere licence and am not interested in Abode's subscription model. That, and Gentle Viking's comments, are worthy of exploration. So thanks, both.

I usually leave my laptop plugged in, which is probably murdering the battery, but if they make battery tweaks, great.

Not that it's really related, but since the first image shows Mail settings: does anyone actually use the built in mail client by choice?

I installed from ISO after some help online and it's been butter smooth. It's nice to have suspend back too. Also, wow windows actually works!

I'm going to run sledgehammer now. Can't be too safe. Should run a backup too - meh.

edit: ended up just using a batch file 'windows update toggle'. Looks the biz so far!
