Well at least they've addressed the no backplate issue that stopped me from considering the 1st version, which was unbelieavbly cheap of you EVGA, given the premium + price you are asking for these.

Because people like a sound card over onboard sound? Just a guess mind you, from someone who has owned many sound cards over the decades

I used to like soundcards then one day had to use the onboard sound and it sounded better than my Soundblaster ZX!

LoL that what say we just as well just used the onboard sound in stead of spending 300 smack on this or use HDMI audio

    i'm not suprised about that
Most sound cards I've used have been sizably better in games, particularly when I wanted to adjust the old EAX stuff, and later as it became more and more "manipulated" and multi channel, I found Stereo through a proper card was best by far.
In IL-2 and ARMA 2 it was a real help with stereo positioning.

Best cards I've used are older and it has to be said, Windows 10 was SUCH a pain in the posterior with older drivers, that I gave up for a year. Then drivers matured and it improved again.

On board audio AND the drivers vary hugely, and so does noise from the headphone port.

But it's all about what you listen too as the final output? £15 in ear cheapies, or £100 over ear music headphones.

Speakers? And if so, desk top or an amp and speaker set up? Soundbar perhaps?

    £100??!! Pfft... peasant.
If it doesn't have at least four figures and a brand name of Sennheiser, as an absolute minimum, there's little point in even having ears.... or so I'm reliably informed, anyway.

I've had a Xonar DAC before and tried a couple of other cards... They were OK, but my biggest requirement has always been ZLM, which most of them do not have.

to be honest, you're right.. I do have some Senns but luckily not 4 figures

Re: EVGA introduces its Nu Audio Pro sound cards

My last sound card was the sound blaster AWE 32 gold, that was back when 1000 MHZ CPU's was the stuff dreams was made of.
And mine even had the optional memory expansion ports filled too,,,,, so quite geeky compared to what my nerdy friends was running.
A expansion that as far as my hazy memory say pushed my sound card to a whopping 12 MB, much more than my GFX card had.

Aaaa the memories, geeking it out before the term geek really caught on.

Re: EVGA introduces its Nu Audio Pro sound cards

I thought most people these days use an external Dac and Amp. Im using a Audiogd R2R dac connected via USB and it sounds just as good as the many soundcards I've had in the past and doesnt take up a PCIE slot on my motherboard. Im using some sennheiser HD650s which I got fairy cheap a few years back, just over 200 quid I think.

Re: EVGA introduces its Nu Audio Pro sound cards

I bought an Asus Xonar years ago when my onboard sound stopped working. I've upgraded motherboards several times since then, each time I get a new board I listen to the onboard sound to see if it sounds better than the card. So far, every time, to my ears the soundcard has won. (That is with analogue outputs and music though, probably the ideal case for it)

Re: EVGA introduces its Nu Audio Pro sound cards

Bit puzzled how they can claim it as a "Pro" card with no SPDIF-in connection for digital audio input. I appreciate it has decent DACs etc, but pro use requires good input options, as well as output. Mind you, the website makes it pretty clear it is aimed at gamers primarily, despite the name. RGB lighting should also give a hint.
