Thanks Mark/Hexus - I'd thought this upgrade opportunity had long since expired. I (perhaps stupidly?) held back on migrating a few years back, but feel that I may get a bit of a performance boost to my ageing system if I refresh now.
As long as hardware is new enough it's faster....
But an SSD makes it fly
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
Thanks 3dcandy.
Just followed the link to the Download Windows 10 site and it suggests this isn't actually a free update for Win 7 users. It suggests:-
"If you don't have a license to install Windows 10 and have not yet previously upgraded to it, you can purchase a copy here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/get-windows-10."
:-( Will it work anyway

I believe it will. The free upgrade never went away for users who need the accessibility options of Windows 10, but I have yet to see any way of saying that is why you are doing an upgrade and I have yet to hear of someone who has had the upgrade fail on them.
TBH I would grab an SSD at the current prices whilst you can (Something like a Crucial MX500 500GB, Amazon have then for just over £50) and do a fresh Windows 10 install onto that.
For me I prefer to go Win 7 > Win 10. You keep media player and a few other things that way (old download directory structure too - the new way annoys me and I then have to change it). Also keep your files and a lot of programs still work fine with no messing and re-installation. Office 2013 for example never seems to get licenced properly if you do a straight Win 10 and then try and install it

Thanks everyone

Update - Old 'puter backed up and successfully migrated from Win 7 to Win 10. It was all pretty painless in the end .
A big thank you to Hexus for highlighting this upgrade was still on the cards, when I thought I'd missed out years ago and thanks to the forum members for responses.
