Intel Xe DG1 graphics card doesn't shine in 3DMark Fire Strike

Score of 5538 means it likely performs similarly to a GeForce GTX 1050 or Radeon RX 460.

Gotta start somewhere - nobody could reasonably expect competitive performance straight out of the gate.

A viable third option in the GPU stakes will be a breath of fresh air.

We just need Nvidia to start producing desktop CPUs now...

Considering the size of their R&D budget and the talent they hired/poached, I don't think its unreasonable at all to expect something, especially given all the waffle from said poached talent.

I wouldn't expect Halo card beating, but this is below meh.

Am I right in thinking that this going to be the iGPU in 15/28W Tiger Lake chips and isn't meant to be a discrete GPU, just happens to be packaged that way?

If so, it's pretty impressive - it's has 768 cores, so has the firepower of a 1050, which is handily matches.

Scaled up to 3000+ cores on a discrete GPU and we might yet see something to rival the Green and Red teams' equivalent offerings.

I'm not denying that it's sub-par but, unless they ditch it like Laffabee, they'll only move forwards. I'm looking forward to the long game.

Assuming the card is actually running in a suitably limited power envelope, assuming dedicated VRAM doesn't affect performance, and assuming Fire Strike performance is actually indicative of game performance.

OH NO the sky is falling! In all seriousness, it is their first card. Give them some slack, maybe 2 more generations seems fare to catch up.

Apart from all the cards they made in the past, buying a graphics company to get kick started.

I've heard this all before from Intel, twice, so apologies for not getting excited.

Does 3DMark Fire Strike reward PCIE4 over PCIE3? My understanding, from a notebookcheck post last year, is that it floods the PCIE bus.

I believe the DG1 development card is PCIE3.

Nah, don't give them any slack. If the price and performance is right, then go for it. If not, with something better being available... hen you simply shouldn't buy.

I'd consider it, as Corel Video Studio crashes when you opt to use my nVidia card.

Intel can't compete if they can't compete.

They are going to have to sacrifice a huge amount of cash to shift these, even more if they intend to establish a presence.

What I actually expect from Intel though is more of the same (disinformation and fudged figures, along with aggressive and deceitful marketing).

Sikorsky did that, and put them under their sky crane helicopters.

If they can sell it at the price a GTX 750 ti would be at if it was available, with reliable drivers, then they might have a winner for work computers!

You've mistaken your cranes and hooks, sky hooks are very special, they're like glass hammers and long weights.

You wouldn't mind asking Cat for a long weight would you, i need one to hold these wires in place.
