This will probably be quicker than the Ryzen 3 3100X. It looks like the Ryzen 3 3300X was a low volume SKU never available in large numbers.

My guess is that it'll be about as quick as the i3-10100.

The top end of the RRP would equate to around £90 in the UK with VAT.

HUB tested it and it is faster than the Ryzen 3 3100X even wih slower RAM.

But if someone is really doing high level productivity, then surely a Core i5 or Ryzen 5 makes more sense. But a £90 CPU would be relevant for a cheap gaming system, and the issue with the Ryzen 3 3100,its the worst of both worlds. It has only two cores active per CCX,and only 8MB of L3 cache per CCX so the performance is all over the place.

Even some of the Core i5 CPUs like the Core i5 10400F are over £40 cheaper than a Ryzen 5 3600 on Amazon now. The UK pricing for some of the Ryzen CPUs doesn't make sense now - I am sure the Ryzen 5 3600 was around £150~£160 a few months ago.

Intel now the value brand! AMD have left a crack in the door open for intel when they could have buried them in the desktop space.

with the launch of next gen consoles I cant see low end gaming making sense for now, such sub $100 cpus are left for minimal productivity tasks such as browsing and general office paper work. Would AMD and Intel market such cpus for gaming....no way!! 6 core is the new minimum gaming benchmark.

I have friends happily playing WoW and undemanding older games on 2C/4T i3s and I'm sure they'd find this an attractive upgrade. This will find a market.
For me (if I was recommending this for a low-end build) the only thing that counts against it is the platform - if you build a budget AMD system then there is a good chance that the next iterative upgrade can be done with just a new CPU, but with Intel you'll almost certainly be held back because of the need for a different socket too.

I know a 17 year old lad doing a BTEC media course who is struggling with a dodgy old dual core i3 laptop. It isn't the high core count monster he really needs, but I expect he would love a 3100.

Edit: But really, the lack of availability on low end AMD parts (apart from the 3100, no-one seems to want those) makes these look interesting if they are actually available. I wonder if the likes of HP and Lenovo have ordered lots of 3300X & 3600 chips in the run up to Christmas.

Yeah and you need a new Motherboard. I used to Intel processors but there constant changing Motherboards really got me and others fed up.

Why Intel can't Support its Motherboards for sometime. Who knows.

    Scan have this for £72:

This is around £20 cheaper than a Ryzen 3 3100!!

I for one welcome our new maker of budget processors

I used to hate building really low end PCs, but these days they are getting pretty decent.
