All about power draw for me. Need to see AMD's <250W part and how it performs against the 3070. 320W is a joke.
Seems like both teams are pushing their cards hard this generation. Fingers crossed AMD's isn't a hot mess. Got to say despite the Nvidia 3000 series power draw they've managed to keep it cool and quiet.
They don't sell FE anymore and all the other cards are cool and quiet triple-fan triple-slot monstrosities. I have an SFF case so I don't play in that ballpark and I assume neither would most mainstream users. You could fit a 2080Ti in some pretty tiny cases last gen, it's a shame perf/watt hasn't really progressed much.
The 250 W thats just the GPU i think, i would be surprised if the new cards are under 300 W
That said today you can get a 12 / 24 core CPU like my threadripper, but one that idle far lower then the 180 W ( total system draw ) my system do now.
In regard to SFF case, well then you have put some ( at least ) limitations on yourself, my current project is in a case that on its own without much up scaling could be a minecraft map
Disponibility will be the major thing.
AMD will have to price it relative to what Nvidia has on offer.
So no problem there really. You will have a choice. Just wait and read at least several reviews.
So many people are eager to buy a new graphic card (be it AMD or Nvidia), they will sell out no matter what.
The more you live, less you die. More you play, more you die. Isn't it great.
If it beats Nvidia, they can set whatever price they want on these card, because they would sell like crazy, or if they want to squeeze the lemon, make their monster card be cheaper than the 3090.
Wouldn't be hard to beat Nvidia right now, all AMD need to do is come close to the performance of the 3080 in a decent power envelope, price it relative to the performance and have some stock availability. If they get the last part right, it doesn't matter what Nvidia do, because Nvidia haven't produced any significant stock.
All rumour and supposition. It is a well known fact that for every 100Mhz increase, power requirements go through the roof - as does the heat generated.
I don't see AMD allowing their cards to be AIB space heaters. No matter what a couple of internet rumour pundits say.
I firmly believe the only reason the pricing will be similar is because nvidia caught wind of what AMD was bringing to the table. The 2080Ti was £1000 at release, and gave a piddly improvement over the £700 1080Ti. I reckon this was going to be a £1000 card too, with a 1080Ti with more RAM slotting in at £1200, but then AMD took a nice steaming dump on their plans. Not to mention the power draw; they had to suck so much juice because they heard of the performance and speeds coming from AMD. Look at these 3080s, how close they are to the absolute performance capabilities, vs the typical headroom left so that AIBs have opportunities to play. Nvidia got blindsided and it's just...delicious. It's absolutely delicious lol
I don't get what's with your attitude, the dude is simply stating, rightly so I reckon a lot will agree with, that a 95c ceiling is wince-inducing. I don't get how you view Igor as uninformed and I don't get how you think it's for personal profit.
Hell I don't get your whole negative attitude it seems you have a beef with one of the most beloved, and most importantly, informative, tech journalists around.
Nothing wrong with having faith in the tech company of course, just..you're weird is all lol

I think Nvidia already OC their cards as the default.
So that leaves little for enthusiasts to OC Nvidia at
400W from the wall. Interested to see how Navi infinity
fabric will turn out.
Great with your sharing
AMD scaling becomes limited by memory bandwidth. Nvidia 3080+ will have better performance in many cases despite the same or higher raw GFOPS/MIPS of AMD. Hopefully AMD have improved the onchip cache & memory controller but can't fully mitigate a lack of GB/s in all cases.
