another board change for a CPU generation beyond the one that hasn't even come out!! think AMD may pick up a few more people, keeping the socket the same and updating the bios is a much better idea.

"You don't have to look very closely at the purported Alder Lake-S CPU to figure out a new socket will be necessary"

This is one of two reasons I will be going AMD next time I upgrade my processor. There's no way for me to upgrade my CPU without a brand new motherboard. Which adds £150+ MB costs and sometimes £100+ RAM costs on top of the cost of a CPU.

Intel are such a PITA with their new sockets with every new processor.

What's the fuss about changing motherboard? If you build a decent rig, it should be able to last 6 years easily without a CPU upgrade. By that point, your motherboard will likely be ancient anyway and you might as well upgrade the entire build.

Intel probably made this decision long ago to make sure that socket is not keeping them away from architectural innovation, but at the same time they seems to stopped innovating at all.
So in general it shouldn't it bad, but why the hell they are so bad then ...
