Re: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT

They are using lower grade Ram than Nvidia and still beats Nvidia in several fields...

Radeon or Nvidia? I wonder what would happen if AMD made a 16GB HBM2 or GDDR6x variant.

It seem to me like that AMD has won by far... and on purpose put little effort into severe stomping Nvidia by far.... I think it is a clear message to Nvidia to not to toy around with AMD... and think AMDs first models is just a showcase and that they are pulling out the big guns soon.

That is interesting for me... because I am looking to buy either a 6900XT or 3090 GFX card on what the two competetors got in around 10-12months?

I often wonder this when I see the amount of aggressively styled plastic attached to my motherboard. Personally, it doesn't factor into by buying decisions and I'd be much happier forgoing the gamer aesthetic and saving a couple of quid.

    3090 review: (Asus Tuf) £1600+

    Pro's -Excellent build quality
    Tasteful RGB
    Dual BIOSes
    DECENT RRP
    Superb thermals

    6900 review: £999
    Con's
    Stock issues
Ray tracing not up to RTX levels
No DLSS-like tech from the off
Noticeable coil whine on our sample
    VALUE PROPOSITION NOT GREAT.

    6900 @ £999 = poor value.
    3090 @ £1600 = decent RRP.
Both cards perform similarly, give or take a % or two

    Wtf??

I don't think the review does them any favours. Factor in a couple of years and DLSS and ray tracing will help the 3090 whilst the Radeons will suffer, if you want raytracing and 4k/8k especially.
Also RTX enables some nice goodies, and I hate to say it but for a few things (live streaming) NV are miles ahead of AMD right now
See the LTT reviews and he says AMD have dropped the ball big time on productivity

Things have moved on since then as the 6800 XT is out. The decent RRP Asus comment was against the FE card, not against others.

Value is always a difficult one, but we feel as if Nvidia does more to differentiate its top two cards. Remember the only difference between 6900 XT and 6800 XT is more shaders - everything is, and we mean everything, is the same.

And thinking changes over time. RTX 3090 still stands alone at the top when evaluated with rasterisation and ray tracing titles. RX 6900 XT doesn't hold that position so relative value has to be of a concern. Of course, you are free to disagree, which is the entire point of a forum.

I must take you to task there Tarinder. 6900XT has better power delivery and a higher TDP

Same TDP. Given the coil whine on our sample, I'd argue the 6800 XT is the better implementation.

Re: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT

Tarinder, coil whine on any card is a huge concern. It shouldn't be on a flagship card

I hope you'll edit your review to add in a mention of the Consumer Rights Act, and what buyers can do if they receive a card with coil whine

Others beg to differ, and of course it's a subjective review. I'd however argue Hexus appears to be in the minority as nobody else mentions coil whine... And TDP? Well most who have taken power draw say the 6900XT consumes more consistently so again I'd argue your point

Re: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT

For the vast majority of gamers wanting to ride the AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series bandwagon the RX 6800 XT makes a lot more sense because you give up no more than 10 per cent framerate and save $350 into the bargain.
Seems similar between the RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 cards (although the price bump is larger). 5-10% gains seems to command rather a large price premium, I do wonder why there is such a large price differential between the 6900XT and 6800XT considering the only difference is the shaders available, the cards both sport very similar specs aside from power delivery?

It's great to see AMD actually competing in the high end again, they just need to resolve the software side of things. Really surprised they didn't release this generation with an answer to DLSS straight from the start, it would have definitely made a difference when you factor in the seemingly poor DXR performance compared to the 3xxx series. I hope AMD have improvements in these areas by the time the next gen comes around, it's why I chose Nvidia yet again, the software.

I do. I actually object to the distasteful look of AIB cards and it's why I prefer the simple yet far more elegant designs of both Nvidia and AMD reference cards.

Linus mentioned the coil whine on the 3090s in one of his videos. It's not really a concern to me when gaming as I'm wearing a headset, but all the same it shouldn't be something acceptable to those who may not be using their cards for gaming. It's nice to know if it is an issue.

Re: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT

For what it's worth, I did voice my concerns on our sample's coil whine. AMD actually came back with a statement:

'High-end graphics cards like the Radeon™ RX 6900 XT draw higher levels of power, requiring the use of high-performance inductors that may oscillate during workloads with high FPS and game load screens, potentially causing a high-pitched sound. While this behaviour is not uncommon on high-end graphics cards, the amount of oscillation will vary from part to part and not all graphics cards will exhibit this issue. FRTC functionality can be enabled on Radeon™ graphics cards, which can be used to limit extremely high FPS (800FPS) rates and mitigate this issue.'

Re: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT

I think it's fair enough to report on coil whine - if it was present in the review card then it should be mentioned.
