I got the game when it was at Battlenet, including a couple of the expansions, and when it moved to Steam I don't think I was treated any different from the newbie F2Pers. Especially when they started removing the paid content. Learned my lesson.
2FA is a very good thing, but SMS 2FA is the least secure method as phone numbers can be spoofed. Better would be to let people use standard authenticator software like MS, Google, Authy and the various open source implementations to achieve the same thing.
Than they will use numbers to send spam, no thanks.
