Because of the way drives do different sort of provisioning I wonder how the 1TB version would look against the Black. Although the 30 quid price difference for what equates to a benchmark-only noticeable difference makes the point kinda moot.

In theory the E18 controller should perform better when paired with the newer (and faster) 176 layer Micron NAND, something which we've seen some previews of already. This first generation of E18 drives paired with 96 layer Micron NAND looks to be a fairly short-lived stopgap.

Honestly it's nice to see the speed increases, but capacity and pricing seriously needs to drop for most end users.

There have been some good QLC drives coming out. Most end users don't need the endurance / performance of TLC and, with sufficient overprovisioning and wear levelling, I'm sure QLC would be more than adequate for a browsing / word processing machine.

Did you try doing a drive migration with their software? I did recently on an MP510, they *really* need to sort that junk out. I gave up, and started a thread on here to ask about alternatives.

I must have missed that thread. Not sure what was recommended but I've had success with EaseUS Todo's free version for drive backups or clones.

TLDR: Corsair software sucked, ik9000 pointed me at aeomi backup software which for free was both easy to use and actually worked. Then I needed another drive, and got a WD Black 750 which was faster, slightly higher capacity, cheaper, came with a free game and the migration software worked on a live Windows install first time. My new VR game that triggered needing a capacity update finally got installed and is pretty good

Agreed, £200 for 1TB is just too much for most use cases. Plenty of great drives for half the price
