Kinda sounds to me like after EA bought Criterion, they downsized the staff... and now there's not enough to make a driving game, the one Criterion specialise in. This is not good news for staff at Codemasters and Slightly Mad Studios I think...
Edit: you know what, this is just a big corporation doing corporation things! And justifying it with
...doesn't hold any water with me. This just suggests that 3 separate franchises (at least) are the same! They're really not. Sorry!

Honestly EA should make Battlefield free to play and introduce battle passes and free content as they've done with Respawn Entertainment and Apex Legends. It would be a better business model for the franchise and we would see improvements and new content a lot faster than we currently do. If they had the audacity to make this move it would shake up the franchise and industry as a whole.
