So, same bit bus as the 3090, not that many less CUDA cores, how many tensor I wonder?
Wonder if this will be an AIB card only.
Wonder if its made from 3090'ss that didn't make the cut.
Wonder if its still on Samsungs 8nm.
Yeah I'd expect it to be Samsung still.
I also expect it to be AIB only and to be launched (on paper) at somewhere between the £1000 and the 3090FE's £1399 price, but then to moon once its actually in peoples hands.
Given how close the 3080 was to the 3090, this will really close that gap and I wonder if a few tweaks will see it eat the 3090 in all but those things that actually need the extra RAM of the 3090..
It's a rather daft card for them to release really isn't it. They can't make their current cards fast enough, so they decide to release yet another SKU that they know they also can't make fast enough, further increasing demand and constraining supply etc.
Crazy timing..really don't get why they don't just abandon this one and leave it until next year. They don't even need to release a 12GB card to fight back against AMD - they already have the superior or equal product (choose depending on whether you care about DXR) for gamers (who don't currently need 12gb, and certainly don't need 16 or 24gb of memory).
Ah well. Will be interesting to see what the scalpers charge for these..given a 3080 is about £1500, a 3090 is £2500...maybe £2k?
No doubt...
1) We wont be able to buy one due to the mining mob and/or scalpers;
2) If we could buy one, it will no doubt cost far too much;
3) And for me, even if I made it through the first two hurdles, it consumes far too much power.
Seeing as they can't even supply the current GPU line up, what's the point even launching this?
Never in the 25 odd years of owning 3D accelerator cards has there been a time I couldn't actually buy a decent (for the time) card at retail price? Frankly the whole GPU industry is a farce at the moment.
The only reason for a 3080Ti, especially at the specs that are being banded around, is they had a lot of chips that almost made 3090's but didn't quite, but for a whole line, if it is a new new GPU, yeah I agree, you cant supply what you have out at the mo, so whats the point in releasing something else?
They'd be better off dropping everything and using all of the capacity they have at Samsung into building one GPU and catching up with demand..
3090, 3080 and 3080 TI are all GA102 chips, so it might be that the reason why 3080's in particular have been hard to find is that they were keeping the chips that would have gone to 3080's for 3080 TI's.
Of course, the other problem in normal times, to meet demand nVidia would use perfectly healthy 3090 silicon but cut the RAM down to make a 3080 / 3080 TI. However, in these odd times they can sell all of their healthy 3090 silicon in 3090's - which means fewer 3080 / 3080 TI's.
Interesting that the base clocks are all around 30MHz lower than the 3090. Wondering if these are silicon that didn't quite make the 3090 cut but are too good for 3080 use.Additionally, there is 12GB of GDDR6X memory running at 1,188MHz on a 384-bit bus – providing the same 19Gbps as the RTX 3080.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GPU poses for photos. Good photos, we are waiting.
There's two ways to look at this new release; on one hand everyone is frustrated that a new GPU is being released that they might not be able to purchase but on the other hand we have another GPU in the line up and potentially more opportunities buy a GPU...If they can make enough
