    Re: QOTW: Do you overclock?

Not since getting my Ryzen! I use to heavily overclock my old ivy bridge (3570k) as I got about 30% more performance. With the Ryzen I've barely got anything extra other than heat (and therefore noise). Its not like I've even taxed the 3600 to more than 50% usage!

I just don't think the need is there anymore unless you enjoy it as a hobby. The days of easy free performance are gone thanks to automatic clocking boosting being so well tuned. You do better just letting it do its thing 90% of the time. (You can spend a fortune on a decent cooler but why not just buy a faster chip!)

Not any more - all my current pc's are now Ryzen based and it makes real to no difference to me. Much more important for other parts of the system like storage and boot drives and memory
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!

Nah, heat is the enemy in a compact ITX build, don't need any more of it!

Nah, Ryzen 5800x run at stock and a 3090 currently underclocked till I can find and afford EKB's new wartercooling for both sides of it!

    Re: QOTW: Do you overclock?

I don't need to anymore, modern CPUs and GPUs are fast enough to be left alone to do their own thing, most of them boost in some form. Memory wise, it's just a case of setting a profile.

    Re: QOTW: Do you overclock?

Nope, i've only had this one built a few months and don't see the need to. That and it's a non K intel cpu on a B460 motherboard so you can't OC anyway.

Don't see the point anymore so, not bothered since I moved on from 3570K.

    Re: QOTW: Do you overclock?

Last system I overclocked was an AMD FX4300 with a GTX 550Ti. Since then, most GPUs and CPUs adopted auto overclocking and I just don't bother.

    Re: QOTW: Do you overclock?

Not usually, but I reserve it as an option for when components are older and there is a need to do so.

I think the last time I did an overclock was with an Intel Q6600. I don't specifically recall doing so with an AMD FX-8350 though, so in the case of the latter I'm either forgetting it or I didn't due to the temps it was already putting out at stock.

    Re: QOTW: Do you overclock?

Interesting that all posts so far are a no to overclocking...

and right now, I'm included on that with my 10700K. Apart from enabling XMP I've not manually tuned it yet. I'm planning on doing so, but there's no point without a GPU that can handle games from the last 5 years - the iGPU is proving far better than expected but it still can't handle much from the last 10 years without a big drop in settings.

Yeah, I bought an intel "K" would seem silly not too.

I did over lock my GPU but some games didn't like it so alway leave that at stock.

    Re: QOTW: Do you overclock?

Not since the Core 2 chips. I had a few of those. The E6420 and Q6600 I remember particularly would overclock ridiculously well, as they'd happily raise the FSB from 266mhz (1066mhz) to 333mhz (1333mhz), and then some with a good board. I had an Asus P5WDH Deluxe, which got as far as 401mhz, and no more. But that was enough to clock the E6420 from 2.13ghz to 3.3ghz, and the Q6600 from 2.4ghz to 3.6ghz, with little effort.
