So with all the AI smarts, it can play Crisis? Or just render it?

I really like the 700 series snapdragons. The 800 series runs too hot and just isn't affordable. I have a 730g in my Samsung m51 and it got more than enough for anything I throw at it without breaking the bank. I had 600 series before and found them struggling at times. The 700 series is the i5/3600 of snapdragons.

I've always liked them as I don't like paying for gaming and compute performance I don't need. But, I have always found I've ended up with a flagship for whatever reason. It might be thaht the camera differences have been significant enough to warrant the extra, being offered a silly good deal on the flagship or that certain contractual elements I needed were only available with the flagship.

Re: Qualcomm announces the 'triple threat' Snapdragon 778G 5G

I agree TBH. For a while the 'midrange' processors had substantially inferior CPUs which could impact on general usability and longevity of the device. However the massive GPUs on the flagship processors are impressive and all, but totally unnecessary for someone like me who doesn't really play any games on their phone.

Increasingly, the mid-range phone SoCs are striking a decent balance between offering decent CPU/connectivity/etc and cost.

I have a phone using the 765G myself, and it's pretty much ideal. Before that, I had a Huawei P9 which had an excellent CPU for its time but the GPU was behind other flagship processors.

The smaller GPUs also generally mean lower max GPU power draw, which limits how quickly playing the odd game or broken app can drain you battery. There's lots of talk of efficiency (perf/W) in phone processors, but total power consumption is what dictates things like battery life and skin temperature. Yeah, *in theory* a big, efficient processor could be power-limited for a given performance target, but that's generally not the case.
