Whilst RRPs don't really mean anything with the weirdness around supply & demand right now - there's a pitifully small saving here for a card that's been robbed of half the RAM of the 3090.
It'd make a great prize for a Hexus competition though ;-)

3000€ in Latvia...
As someone who plays at 4K it feels like you're basically paying an insane premium for a bit more RAM. I wanna upgrade a 1080Ti but the 3080 has less VRAM, and am seeing a lot of games even today using most if not all, and it's only going to get worse.
DLSS helps in this regard but honestly, as good as DLSS may be, I'll still rather run at native resolution. If you're gonna buy such a high powered card, seems daft not to. DLSS is great, but it's not perfect, it's most def a compromise, more a component to make raytracing playable rather than a replacement for native resolution
Given the price I think I'd be tempted to still get the standard 3080...
I last bought hardware back shortly after the GTX 980 launched. In those brief 6-ish years, the price of top-end graphics cards has formally more than tripled, but in practice with the state of mining, it's way worse than that.
To see more paper launches of unattainable and massively hyperinflated products is galling to say the least.
Wondering if, rather than when, I'll be able to upgrade.
Price is crazy, even at mrrp your talking a grand! I'd want a whole system for that.
Maybe in 5 years + when the mining craze has crashed for the 50th time I might be able to get a second hand one.
Meh. I'll stick with my 1080ti until they release something with a reasonable TDP. 350 watts is ridiculous.
Seems like they're just bruteforcing performance.
Good news for gamers with a 999+ Dollar label on it?!?
To be honest its worth half, as its almost half as good card for mining.
Just give it up.
The time to tame the ridiculous pricing by not buying was long ago, and now that miners can make back whatever the cards cost them, there won't ever be affordable gaming cards.

Then others seem to think it's a waste of time releasing a new model in the current climate, GN was particularly harsh but i think they may have a bad card as they were getting 90-100c and a flickering screen when they touched the power budget.
Pricing ATM is scandalous across the board on GPU's new or otherwise. If I had money to burn I still wouldn't buy as I detest being ripped off or paying good money for something that is essentially not worth it, and expensive GPU's aren't. I was gonna joke that I still have a Trident 1mb ISA card knocking about until I saw they are selling in the States for about £100. Damn it , I've thrown or given away plenty of ISA and PCI cards , might shoot myself. Lol.
