To be fair, the Dark boards are *heavily* geared to the 'overclock to the max' crowd (for example, despite being a massive board, it only has 2 RAM slots, which is great for memory overclocking, but not so great if you want to upgrade RAM). Point is that if you're seriously considering this board as something you can use all of the features of, you've probably got an LN2 pot somewhere and the cost of the board is perfectly reasonable for what you're getting.
For almost everyone else though, this is not a good board, because you're paying for stuff you will never use - especially with turbo boosting on modern processors.

Was thinking of getting one of these for the living room media centre PC. With all those heat sinks I won't need a fan.

Let's put it another way for those doubting just how overkill this is: It has a 21-phase VRM, and they're high quality VRMs. "Standard" overclocking friendly motherboards might have 12-phases (in some configuration, normally 8+4, and amount depending on the quality of the VRMs). My motherboard, an overclocking friendly X570-I, has 6+2-phase high quality VRMs, and most non-overclocking-friendly boards will have something like 4+2 low quality VRMs.
The price is excessive, but so is the product. You're getting 3-5 motherboards worth of power regulation here (depending on the exact configuration, which I wouldn't be able to pick out from that photo), and this can throw a helluva lot of power into the CPU. Hence my earlier comment: if you're considering this, you probably have a LN2 pot waiting to go. I'm pretty confident water cooling won't cut it with this at full-whack.
just no there's a lot of manufactures that have great power delivery ..well most top tiers do but there not charging you a kidney for doing it .. and even in the world of LN2 there's overkill .

the price isn't that bad for a very high end board, just look at the ASUS ROG Maximus XIII Extreme Glacial you could have 2 of these and change enough for storage and a cooler. there isn't a hope in hell that I would buy either of these boards, just not worth it for a maximum of 8 cores and not worth the price!!
There's no point in people moaning about this. It's a niche product and if you don't see the value in it then you simply aren't the target market.
Really over-engineered electronics designed to be pushed hard and fail in specific ways requires experienced engineers and a lot of time. They won't be selling many of these. The R&D costs are probably several times a normal board, plus the cost of the components and then it's low volume. Of course it's expensive. Just ensuring copper traces / solder joins don't fail with repeated exposure to LN2 and heat is gonna require testing in extreme conditions over and over. Normal boards simply do not require validation like that.
Myself, I don't see a use for it for me, but I do understand that building stuff like this is not easy or cheap. If you're not the market, why whinge?
